Nav1 CDI not working

Recommended Posts

Hi

I know this sounds crazy but the Nav1 cdi in all my aircraft  doesn't work. nav2 cdi works fine. I must be missing something obvious. Please advise

thx Lee

Hi Lee,

possibly a navigational source issue - you may have set the source for CDI one to "GPS" - which means it´s fed off of the GPS unit (showing how far off an entered flightplan you are) - instead of having it set to NAV so it can show deviation information from the selected VOR. In the C172 there is a little button right over the CDI1 to switch.

Thanks for your response. It's strange though. I can put identical vor frequencies in both nav 1 and nav 2 and only the nav 2 cdi show that its picking up the station. The nav 1 doesn't move and shows the red flag.

regards, Lee

In aircraft equipped with the default GNS430/530, the NAV1 CDI only shows NAV1 data if you don't have selected GPS as navigation source. This change was introduced somewhere during the X-Plane 11 beta and is a feature, not a bug.

Which is pretty much exactly what I answered in my first reply - I guess sometimes it can pay to really read closely and try to comprehend... or maybe I have to start writing in more simple terms...

Sort of, but I meant to say something else, I guess (something that might not be related at all to what dental was asking, now that I think of it)

I was referring to the NAV1 bearing... internally (on the dataref level), NAV1 will always have GPS bearing if GPS is the selected nav source. If one now has something like a G1000, where besides the HSI two additional bearing pointers are selected for showing NAV1 or NAV2 (they are thin blue pointers in a G1000), these additional bearing pointers will always point to GPS bearing instead of NAV1, if GPS is selected for CDI. But an additional NAV1 bearing pointer should always point to NAV1, regardless if GPS or NAV1 is the selected CDI source. It doesn't, because X-Plane overwrites the internal NAV1 dataref's bearing with the one of the GPS, so such bearing pointers can't read this dataref anymore, but instead have to do it differently. That's what I was thinking about.

Hehe, this reply wasn´t directed at you, Mario - I think you simply stated the answer to the problem much better than I did.  Or the OP didn´t read my reply so well... Viele Grüße, Jan
