MU-2 Down

Recommended Posts

Hi Al,

Yeah - saw this one too - bad couple days for FSW type aircraft...  This one is bizarre - seems he was flying along fat, dumb, and happy at FL240 in good weather - no calls - speculation was in flight break up... Bermuda Triangle ?

Regards,

Scott

Hi Jim,

I think he was returning from Puerto Rico - landing at KTIX - last ping on FlightAware had him about 20 miles east of Governor's Harbor in the Bahamas... So 319 seems in the ballpark... At FL240 - certainly could have been pressurization related...

Scott

Sorry, The U.S. Coast Guard says the twin-engine MU-2B was east of the island of Eleuthera on Monday when air traffic control in Miami lost radar and radio contact with the plane. It was en route from Puerto Rico and never made it to its destination of Titusville, along the northeastern coast of Florida. The U.S.

Defiantly need part 121 type recurrent training to stay ahead of that airplane, very unforgiving.

Hi Jim,

Yep - I've also seen mention by those familiar with the aircraft what happens with the engines during an engine failure and the failed engine prop doesn't feather - could lead to loss of control...

Scott

Yes,the Garrets have a mechenicly complex negative torque system,If proper maintenance is not kept up,bad things happen.

Hi Jim,

Well it seems you are in the know...

Something to be said for simple fixed pitch SEL aircraft...

A lot of my turbo prop maintenance/run up experience, was on EMB-110,B-1900,B-99 PT-6's,I also have experience on P-3 Orion,Saab 340,ATR -42 engine & propeller systems. The PT-6 was the most reliable by far.

If you take up FDE design, you can holla RAZBAM. Apparently a good FDE is everything they need to complete their -120.
