Torres Strait Islands Revisited

Recommended Posts

This week we're resuming our continuous tour Down Under and revisiting the Torres Strait Islands between northern Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Last time we were here Jeff and Mike worked out an excellent route so I take no credit for this week's plan for anything other than shamelessly plagiarising their work and reversing the route!

Starting at Horn Island, we'll fly round the islands and finish at Daru, just off the coast of PNG. A slow sightseeing aircraft would be ideal for the islands, so a nice opportunity to pull your Cessna 172s or Cherokees out of the hangar.  The last leg, from Murray Island to Daru is a little longer overwater though so you might like to jump into something a little speedier for that.

Flight plans in PLN and PLG formats can be downloaded here.

Scenery

I'll assume we all have the OzX packages installed. In addition, you'll want the following freeware to enjoy the islands at their FSX/P3D best:

OzX Torres Strait Islands

Mike Burbidge additonal Torres Strait airports

Mike Burbidge Yorke Island (note that this is a new version since our last visit)

Alan Blencowe library kit (required by Mike Burbidge sceneries)

Orbx Freeware Murray Island (Tim Harris)

And while you're at it you might as well grab the Orbx freeware Holgermesh for PNG, as we'll need that shortly anyway.

Particulars

Date and time: May 20, 2017, 1800 UTC

Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com

Daru (AYDU) is just stock? - Just wonderin...

Hi Roman... AYDU is one of the 20-odd PNG airports given a makeover as part of the Orbx AYPY Jacksons package, so if you have that you should be seeing something a bit better than stock. I have what looks like a non-stock terminal building with a palm leaf-covered walkway.

Does this mean we might see you tomorrow?

Currently planning on it  .. DIdn't have time to fully look at the scenery, just used Little Navmap to make sure I had the sceneries active. A rebuild of the LNM database and AYDU showed up correctly.
