First Impressions...not as bad as some are saying

Recommended Posts

Tested out FSW today by flying the included super cub low and slow, starting at a couple different airports.  Was able to max out all the sliders and maintain good fps, except I had all traffic off, so I'm not sure of traffic's impact on performance.

I think the ground scenery is a noticeable improvement over stock fsx.  For example, the golf course textures are a lot sharper; trees and buildings seem better too.  Road networks still need a bit of work, as far as their look.  In Las Vegas, was pleased to see custom scenery representing all the casinos on the strip.  Night lighting is much better than fsx (but still short of XP11).  The cockpit experience was pretty good...nice sounds and vibrations; flight modelling seemed reasonable but I haven't tested spins and stalls yet. The plane looked great.  Airports need work...runways are bleached out and everything is too bright in daylight.  Water is much better than the stock fsx water.

I think for GA flying this is an incremental improvement over fsx.  The sim did crash on me when I tried to end one flight and start a new one.  It may be a good idea to exit and restart in between flights.  I was disappointed in that the camera system is just like fsx, no improvement and miles behind the easy system included in X-plane.

I hope they don't ignore turboprops and jets completely...they need one of each in the final release version I think, just to show they care about more than GA aircraft.  Plus, to show more complex systems can be modeled.  Otherwise, its just flight school +.

I'm hopeful this is a good start.  Time will tell.

even if you like fsw, don't expect many addons from 3rd party devs.

As long as Orbx, carenado and A2A ... are involved is fine with me.

Yeah can't wait for those $120 plus planes from PMDG. No thanks.

This is pretty damn funny. Currently the PMDG 747 QOTS 2 is 134 for P3D. So you would pay that amount for the P3d version but not for FSW?

Follow the bouncing ball. I responded to this comment:"even if you like fsw, don't expect many addons from 3rd party devs." If PMDG doesn't want to port their stuff over I'm fine with that. If they want to quit whining about the piece of the pie and bring their stuff over then we'll see.
