Shorts 360 in Flight Sim World

Recommended Posts

Messing about with DTG's FSW to see how easy/hard it is to get FS birds funstioning in the new sim. This is the Virtualcol Shorts 360 in FSW. Sounds, gauges, control surfaces, gear etc all appear to play/animate correctly, wing nav lights don't work but landing lights do. 2D pop up panels are all clickable and most function correctly but VC buttons are not functional. It appears to fly much the same as in FSX with some improvements, for example, if you overspeed it, the airframe rattles and shakes a lot and let's you know you are pushing things too much. Tweaks to the config file and copying a few gauges over are all that was required to get it going in FSW. Note that the very overbright colours of FSW play havoc with the livery colours, making the American Eagle text look very pink.

Interesting.... £20 for a 64bit FSX.. almost  FSW is beginning to look like a more viable purchase already.

It's an interesting experiment of course, but the thorny issue of licensing and such rears it's head, after all, Virtualcol never sold me that 360 with an agreement which licensed it for FSW, so if it came to it, I would buy it again to be legit with it, or pay I dunno, maybe a fiver to expand its licencing or whatever. But, what it does show is that a reasonably well equipped twin payware airliner can get an easy 30 fps in the new sim with no problems, and that is without even being designed for use in it, nor with FSW's architecture finalised. Interesting possibilities abound.
