I never buy anything in this domain until it has been released long enough to have all the gripes found and all the hot fixes, revs, updates, etc. issued.

How's FS2002 going? Should be quite fast on your system lol

Wow, you are easily pleased. The sim I have been waiting for during the last 30 years still isn't there. :biggrin: If the best parts of all current sims could be combined we would get closer.  But still nog close enough.

This isn't good enough for you?

I will purchase Prepar3D because of P3D v4 and keep Fsx Acc until all/most of my add-ons become compatible. This will be my first Prepar3D installation. In a first step specially for PMDG and FsLabs aircraft...

My second sim will be Aerofly.

Richard Portier

Short answer: no. It's good but not good enough. I can't imagine anyone being really satisfied with generic landclass scenery with all its drawbacks. It does the job up to a certain point but it's not even close to what you would see in real life. So no, it is good but not good enough. I know this probably won't happen in my lifetime but a flightsim will only be good enough for me when the world I see out of my window is like it is in reality. Up to then things can be good up to great and even awesome (I can't wait for the photoreal regions that Orbx will be making for Aerofly FS 2) but not yet 'enough'.

I will not be purchasing P3D v4 on release day. I have too many important addons to check first with respect to compatibility, and I am not interested in having two different versions of P3D on the same PC. I will let others do the beta testing

. When I personally see advantages that I will gain moving to V4, then I will make the move. All the add ons I use daily, will have to work first. Right now  V 3.4 is working great.

Maybe in six months or a year to see if there in some miraculous improvement upgrading to V4 over my current V3.4 installation. As is it works well enough for my needs but I don't consider myself a hard core at this hobby and I hate doing software reinstalls.

FSUIPC it seems is being worked on as is makerwys. So you'll probably be able to run PF3 so that's one important add-on at least!

If that isn't good enough for you, how can you then be a fan of Aerofly FS2? Don't get me wrong. It has potential, but it lacks in so many areas right now that it just feels like an arcade game.

I have returned from X-Plane after two years. I left P3D as I was sick of the 32 bit platform and getting constant OOM's no matter how hard I tried to keep them down (P3D V2.5). Now returning to P3D V4 on Tuesday with a very positive outlook having already purchased the PMDG 747 in anticipation and saving up to upgrade to a 1080Ti.

Aerofly has a LOT lacking indeed and it certainly isn't 'good enough' either! In certain aspects it is way behind P3D. Not even close. But the few things it DOES offer I like more for my current use, compared with other sims. It's that simple. This may change at anytime for me. But with what is coming Aerofly FS 2 seems to be heading more and more my way, hence my current preference.

I am not a fan of any sim or developer: I am only a fan of what I like at any given moment.

Do we assume multicore and HT exploitation should be fundamentally as it is w/ V3.x?  I'm on the every 6y plan for rebuilds and I'm just now starting year 6, so I'm looking hard at i9-7900X:

Intel Core i9-7900X – Intel’s Massive Multi-Tasking Processor Featuring 10 Cores, 20 Threads

The Intel Core i9-7900X is the 10 Core, 20 thread replacement to the Core i7-6950X. This chip will come with 10 cores, 20 threads but on a new Skylake architecture. The chip would feature a total of 13.75 MB cache, that’s 1.375 MB per core. The core clocks are maintained at 3.3 GHz base, 4.3 GHz boost with Intel Turbo 2.0 and 4.5 GHz boost with Intel Turbo 3.0. That’s a vast improvement over the current models and the chip will supposedly feature good overclocking capabilities with its TDP of 160W. The chip will have 44 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes.

If 4.5Ghz is doable w/ Turbo 3.0 then isn't it reasonable to expect a little more w/ proper cooling?

I purchased the best parts I could a little over 5y ago for me current build, it's been nothing short of fabulous and still runs P3D V3.0 very very well.  3930K, GTX Titan, 32Gb DDR3@2400Mhz.

The next build should be somewhere towards the end of the year:  i9-7900X, GTX 1080i Ti in SLI if that is well-supported by build time, and 32Gb DDR4@2666Mhz.

Around the time this happens I will likely be ready to consider V4, or XP11 or what have you.
