My Texture Folder has many..."Copy of..." entries

Recommended Posts

I just went into my Texture folder in FS9 and noticed many, many copies of various textures. It says "Copy of runway 13..", etc., etc. This appears totally redundant and unnecessary. I'm thinking that this may be contributing to slow texture loading. I would love to delete EVERYTHING that says "Copy of.." What do you think? There are hundreds of BMP files that start with those words.

Thanks for the advice, but HOW did the copies get there? Any ideas, and do you think that the copies contribute so slow texture loading in the sim?

It's really easy when right-clicking in any folder to inadvertantly cause the whole thing to be copied back into itself. Or, it could be some add-on that's created the copies (although I've never seen that happen). But, as Mark said, I'd just delete them. I'd think that they wouldn't cause a slowdown but I guess that depends on exactly how the textures files are read for loading. Maybe someone who designs/modifies scenery can tell us whether or not they would be read by any sequential-read type of activity.Doug

Don't delete them, yet. Move then to a temp directory then load FS to see if everything works fine. If it works ok then you should be good to delete them. If it doesn't work, you can always move them back.

Everything will work fine. "Copy of" is just what it says, a copy.

I DELETED them! Looks like ZERO effect. No problem. Although it didn't affect the FS9 performance, I really gained some hard disk space. Thanks again everyone.
