P3D V4 CPU requirements

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a small question referring to the CPU requirements for P3D v4. Actually I'm using P3D v3 with a Dell Precision 7910 CAD Workstation and a GTX 1060 GPU. This is a high performance CAD workstation from Dell. But the problem is... You can only use Intel Xeon E5 processors on it. I have a Intel Xeon E5-2640 v4 CPU. https://ark.intel.com/products/83359/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2640-v3-20M-Cache-2_60-GHz

This CPU has 8 physical cores / 16 threads and 2,6 GHz and the turbo frequency is up to 3,40 GHz.

My question is: Is this enough for P3D v4? On the system  requirements page LM said as recommendation https://www.prepar3d.com/system-requirements/ Quad Core 3.5 GHz (Per Core) +)... I would upgrade my CPU but it's not easy to get Xeon E5 cpus with 3,5 GHz per core. So my question what is better? An Intel Xeon E5 with 8 cores and 2,6 GHz or a quadcore with 3,5 Ghz? Should I upgrade to a Xeon CPU with more GHz per core?

Thank you.

Flight simulators based on the Microsoft Flight Simulator legacy, FSX, FSX-SE, Prepar3D are CPU speed centric. The faster the CPU the better, irregardless of the number of cores or threads

Not entirely true for v4, however.
