No, one can just point the V3 installer to the V4 locations. The official LM method actually isn't as complicated as it looks

Jay, is this the fix captain420 asked you about?

Thanks,

Everything went bad lol.  Somehow my P3D v3 Legacy went bye bye upon installing the new one in P3D v4.... off to install back in v3 *sigh*

Has anyone figured out how to make the cockpit sounds in the Duke work?

Nice post Jay,  Only got around to do this now,  Its a nice system works very well.

I extracted the Turbine to my C Drive and added in the path's to launch it,  Done the same for the Legacy

Because I'm completely illiterate when it comes to these things, would someone be so kind as to break this down into step-by-step instructions please!  I don't want to screw this install up; the Turbine Duke is a favorite of mine.

Thank you so much.

Hi Dreamflight.  To install the Turbine Duke, follow these steps.

Option 1: Config Panel controls P3D v4 Duke

Step 1:  Run your installer and install to this path: C:\Users\[YOU]\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3

Step 2:  Create the file add-on.xml with notepad and place it in the directory specified in Step 1.  It should contain the following contents:

<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>RealAir Turbine Duke V2</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>RealAir Turbine Duke V2.</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Effects</Category>
        <Path>Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

Step 3:  When you ran the installer in Step 1, it updated two P3D v3 config files to point to the Turbine Duke in the P3D v4 add-ons folder.  If you want to keep your Turbine Duke P3D v3 and v4 settings separate, do the following:

Open your C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\simobjects.cfg file and change the path so that it points back to your Turbine Duke install for P3D v3.  The entry should look something like this (your entry number may be different):
[Entry.0]
PATH=E:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3\SimObjects\Airplanes
TITLE=RealAir Turbine Duke V2
ACTIVE=true
REQUIRED=false

Open your C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\effects.cfg file and change the path so that it too points back to your Turbine Duke install for P3D v3.  The entry should look something like this:

[Entry.0]
PATH=E:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3\Effects
TITLE=RealAir Turbine Duke V2
ACTIVE=true
REQUIRED=false

Note: The Duke's config panel is hardwired to read the registry to determine where to update your aircraft.  A new installation overwrites the registry each time.  So both Duke config panels (for P3D v3 and P3D v4) will read the same registry and will always update aircraft settings in the most recently installed location.

Option 2: Config Panel controls only P3D v3 Duke

Step 1: Copy your P3D v3 Duke folder (e.g., E:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3) and paste into C:\Users\[YOU]\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons

Step 2: Create the file add-on.xml with notepad as explained in Option 1.

Note: you will have to manually edit config files in C:\Users\[YOU]\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3 to change settings that you would normally do through the Duke's config panel.

Once you've completed Option 1 or 2, Start-up Prepar3D v4

It should immediately ask you to accept the RealAir Turbine Duke V2 add-on.

Hope that helps!

I didn't do any of  that, just installed like usual and it all works great except for cockpit sounds.

This is for people who want to use the bird in both V3 and V4.

Hi,

I found the easiest and most straightforward approach was to proceed as follows:

I still have Prepar3D v3.4 installed and wish to preserve the installation for as long as it takes for me to bring Prepar3D V4 up to similar spec.

The RealAir Legacy V2 and Turbine Duke V2 are installed outside P3D:

vlNjAsn.jpg

1)  I created 2 new folders in Libraries\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons:

Legacy V2 P3D3 and Turbine Duke V2 P3D3

2)  2 Text Documents were created and one of each placed in the folders created at step 1)

3)  Each Text Document was renamed to add-on.xml

4)  I created and saved the following text in the newly created add-on.xml file residing in the Legacy V2 P3D3 folder:

<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>RealAir</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>RealAir Legacy V2.</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Effects</Category>
        <Path>D:\RealAir\Legacy V2 P3D3\Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>D:\RealAir\Legacy V2 P3D3\SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

5)  I created and saved the following text in the newly created add-on.xml file residing in the Turbine Duke V2 P3D3 folder:

<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>RealAir</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>RealAir Duke Turbine V2.</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Effects</Category>
        <Path>D:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3\Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>D:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3\SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

6)  I ran P3D V4 and each of the 2 'RealAir' addons was added during the initial loading phase of the sim.

7)  Both RealAir aircraft were loaded and checked for proper operation (cockpit sounds excepted).

8) I exited the sim and checked that the appropriate entry had been entered automatically in ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3Dv4\add-ons.cfg:

[Package.1]
PATH=D:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3\SimObjects\Airplanes
ACTIVE=true
REQUIRED=false

For some reason there was not a separate entry for the Legacy V2 P3D3. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that they are both 'RealAir' products installed under the common 'RealAir' folder.

So, in the end it was all really very straightforward while, at the same time, preserving my original installations and without any need for copying the RealAir Installation over to Libraries\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons, as some others have done.

Something I discovered was I added the "add-on.xml" file as you suggested to my RA Turbine Duke folder. Then I copied the entire folder with the new add-on.xml file into the P3Dv4 Add-ons folder that was created by the P3Dv4 install.

Then all you have to do is launch the P3Dv4 sim and it asks you if you want to add the new add-on aircraft and you hit yes and it creates the path file in the

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 for you.

I tried this because when I installed the new A2A C172 P3Dv4 compatible installer that's what happened when I launched P3Dv4 so I thought I would try it with the Duke and it WORKED!

So this way you don't have to edit any config files, it makes the appropriate entry for you.

I was also wondering why the GTN system doesn't work in P3Dv4.

I notice in the "add-on.xml" file you only point to Effects whereas in the A2A C172 "add-on.xml" file they point to Effects, Fonts, and Gauges. I know there is no Gauges folder for the Duke but a couple folders deeper under Realair there is the "Config Panel.exe"  Is there any way to get the panel to work or create a gauges folder by running this?

I assume if there was one created it would have to be referenced in the "add-on.xml" file like the A2AC172 does:

<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>A2A</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>Aircraft by A2A Simulations Inc.</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Effects</Category>
        <Path>Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Fonts</Category>
        <Path>Fonts</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Gauges</Category>
        <Path>Gauges</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Scripts</Category>
        <Path>Scripts</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

  compared to what we put in the Duke file below:

<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>RealAir</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>RealAir Turbine Duke V2.</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Effects</Category>
        <Path>Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

Just curious because everything works great and I'm wondering what it will take to activate the GTN panel. Perhaps it's all related to the GTN 750 from Flight1 but I thought Realair might have had their own implementation like my Eclipse 550 NG in X Plane 11 does.

Thanks for all your help and information

Joe

The above post was made back on page 2 of this thread and has worked foR all of have used it. This allows both versions of P3D to use the Duke and in the future if you uninstall P3D v3 the RA Duke Turbine file was installed outside of P3Dv3 as it should have been and it will still work for v4. This approach requires NO conic file mods and lets P3D do all the appropriate mods when you launch it and it sees the new add-on.xml file just like all the new A2A installs will go etc..

Hi Joe.  The only thing I would recommend differently from your above post is to change the add-on name <AddOn.Name>RealAir</AddOn.Name> to <AddOn.Name>RealAir Turbine Duke V2</AddOn.Name>.  I actually ran into a problem where I was trying to add both the Legacy and Turbine Duke, and P3D v4 didn't like two add-ons with the same add-on name.

Thanks Poppet!

Your method was a piece of cake.

Like Poppets method just let the Duke installer install to the C drive. C:\RealAir\Turbine Duke V2 P3D3. All the files will install there including the Config Panel.exe file, then just go to: C:\Users\your name\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\Duke and create a folder for the Duke. In that folder create the file add-on.xml open with notepad and copy and paste the above that Elaine provided.

I also did this same method for P3D V3 C:\Users\your name\Documents\Prepar3D v3 Add-ons\Duke using the same add-on.xml file as for V4.

Using these method to install the Duke does the Config Panel.exe work for P3d v4? I Have it install but the Cpanel doesn't work.
