P3D4: How's your video card working out?

Recommended Posts

I have a 970 4GB and I'm wondering if it's enough.  What do you have and how's it working out?

I have a 1080ti and you can see here, in 4K, how it works...

Some are struggeling, but for me personally v4 is GOLD. You can see in the video at around 1:35 the CPU and GPU performance charts.

Gregg,

I have the same card, it is enough but definitely not ideal.  I am seeing about the same frames as v3 but with much higher settings....because I am a glutton for punishment, so I really should tone it down and get better frame rates but I decided to test the limits at the moment.

Very good to hear.  Thanks Mark.

Also on a 1080 Ti and it's just munching up everything I throw at it, 8xSSAA, Ultra reflections, shadows maxed out, Ultra water and it's just sitting at 40c whilst playing, begging for more.

How's with dynamic lightning at night? My frames got from locked 30 to 15 using 747  using landing lights at night. daytime has a lot less impact

1080 ti here and it's def munching everything up, though it's def not sitting at 40c! More around a nice 60c (ish) mark, which is pretty cool considering it's running full tilt most of the time.

I am finding the same thing...dynamic lights kill FPS.  I had 40FPS on the runway at FB KSFO in the 747 and as soon as I turned on all the lights I dropped to high teens. The more you turn on, the worse it is. It makes panning in the VC very bad but it was still a smooth takeoff.....

I'm running a GTX 1070 with no problems otherwise....

I haven't thrown everything at it yet, but mine's definitely not sitting at 40c either.  LIke yours, mine hangs around 60c.

Couldn't tell you just yet, haven't been through that exact scenario yet, sorry :)

To be fair, I have a Sea Hawk X, which is an AIO card. It never really exceeds 50c and in less intensive applications, it stays around 38-40c.

I have a 1080 and no problems at all with dynamic lightning... wonder why !?

My 1060 is now at 55 C, in cruise over Arizona in 747. I have very smooth experience, maxed settings, just have an issue with dynamic lightning :/ Planning to get 1800Ti OC by the end of the month.

1080 Ti, which is a recent upgrade from a 970. It is working very well - I just did a short flight in P3DV4 from FSDT IAD to FSDT JFK, in the PMDG 747, with a dense layer of clouds injected by AS16, and using Orbx Global textures, HD Trees and OpenLCNA.

Running 4X SSAA, my (unlocked) frame rates were averaging 45 on the ground, to near 80 in flight. Extremely smooth - better than anything I ever saw in Version 3, using the 970

I have not (yet) tried any flights at night to see the effects of dynamic lighting. I would expect that will bring down the frame rates.

With the default Baron, I am seeing unlocked frame rates around 130-140.

As others have noted, the GPU works very hard in P3D Version 4 (and in FSW too). I am seeing loads up to 85% on a regular basis, and the GPU definitely runs warm. It idles at about 30C in P8 mode, but with the sim running, temps will definitely get above 60C. It was pretty warm in my computer room yesterday, and on one occasion I saw the temps hit 80C - I took the GPU fan out of auto at that point in NVidia Inspector, and bumped the speed up to 80 percent, which cooled it back down to about 65C. I have the "Founders Edition" version of the 1080 Ti, which is shrouded, and has a single fan that exhausts outside of the case. I could actually smell the hot metal of the GPU heat sink when the temps approached 80C

I only had the 1080 Ti for a few days before I uninstalled Version 3, but even running everything maxed out, I don't think I ever saw a GPU load above 40 percent, or temps above 50C, so there is no question that Version 4 is utilizing the GPU intensely.

What were your frames at landing on JFK and what autogen settings did you use? I wonder how much more fps you get with a 1080 Ti instead of my GTX 1060
