Excellent Performance!

Recommended Posts

Just flew a flight from FlightBeam KSFO to KSAN over Orbx SoCal Scenery using Orbx4 Weather and ProATCX to guide me.  Maxed out most settings as follows:

P3DV4_Settings_02.png
P3DV4_Settings_03.png

Awesome results with system shown in my signature (i7 7700K; Nvidia 1080TI; Samsung M2 SSD to name a few).

The following is the data collected by FSUIPC5:

228407 Aircraft="PMDG 747-400M PMDG House (N744MG | 2017)"

3992375 Sim stopped: average frame rate for last 3763 secs = 34.4 fps
3992375    Max AI traffic was 255 aircraft (Deleted 0)

  4003844 System time = 04/06/2017 17:55:31, Simulator time = 15:17:49 (22:17Z)
4003844 *** FSUIPC log file being closed
Minimum frame rate was 10.7 fps, Maximum was 64.5 fps
Average frame rate for running time of 3763 secs = 34.4 fps

Interesting but some of those settings are too low for me to enjoy a flight especially no autogen or cloud shadows. One thing if you have autogen to none you could put autogen distance to the left. If you use Activesky you can uncheck "enable turbulence and thermal effects on aircraft" and rate of change to none. You have a strong computer and a 1080ti at least some autogen and cloud shadows could be enabled.

Without autogen with a 1080 Ti? This is extremely bad. Should be on 60 fps + since I have with my GTX 1060 50+ fps without autogen in NYC. Also KSFO doesnt heat up the system at all. Even almost everything maxed out I get 25 - 30 fps there, while in LAX 15 - 20 fps, same NYC.

EDIT: Okay you playing with traffic 1440p + 8x SSAA that explains the bad fps

Have no idea why some simmers think 60 fps is so great.  I'm happy with anything over 20 fps.

Do not like Autogen when flying the heavies at FL260.  Cloud shadows are nice at 3500 feet in a general aviation aircraft but not in a heavy at FL 360.  Autogen and shadows are known fps killers but I'm sure my system could handle them.  Just don't want them.

My system is very similar to yours Jim. I'm finding that with a 1080ti it's not the GPU that's the bottleneck.

Hi Fred.  P3D uses the CPU more than the GPU.  The only good thing about a GPU is that you can rachet up the graphics settings more and I did.  As my title implicates, I am extremely happy with my settings and the performance I received.  I just posted the info for others to compare or to see how good or bad the performance in P3D.  It is the eye of the beholder that needs to be satisfied and not necessarily those who have other objectives/settings in mind.  P3DV4 could be running over 100 FPS with all settings set to the highest and 15 to 20 add-ons running in the background and people would still complain.  It's a big world we live in....

Best regards,

Jim

Yet, Autogen=0 doesn't serve as a proof or reference point to excellent P3D performance no matter how big the world is.
