Floating runway lights in p3dv4

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm new with p3d and love v4 bit I have a question:

I see that I have floating runway, taxi and approach lights. The lights  "hang" above the ground. Is this a "normal" thing in p3d?

Its a problem with all the airports. Only have ORBX global en EU installed.

Mike

This is "carry over" issue from FSX and since much "under the hood" remains from 2006, we still see those kinds of issues.  I would really have expected that, after four versions, these fundamental issues would have been addressed.

Maybe they just cannot be fixed without significant code change..

I'll let others comment as well.  But, I've had it since FSX first came out and in all versions of P3D.  The bottom-line for me is that I'm glad that the development is continuing and that we have a 64-bit platform now.  I actually switched 100% to XP11 only to come back when P3D v4 was released (I'm crazy!).  But, in many ways, P3D v4 is a 64-bit version of FSX and that is not all bad.  I just wish that over the course of 4 separate versions some of the fundamental issues and updates needed in the original FSX would have been addressed.

Just the way it is with FS derivatives unfortunately if one uses a light object. It has to be placed 'outside' of other 3D objects otherwise it gets buried in them and won't display. Same with FS aeroplanes, you can see that has had to be done on this nav light on a B17 Flying Fortress in FS and also see why; the light is being blocked where the 3D object of the wing is and there is a very obvious hard edge to the glow where that occurs:

The real B17 Flying Fortress wingtip nav light, as with most aeroplanes, is a fairly flush and quite small fitting, but if you placed the light in that realistic position on an FS model, there would be all kinds of problems with how it displayed:
