Anyone running P3Dv4 on a 4790K?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this should be in the CPU forum. Currently I run a 4790K @ 4.7 and a EVGA FTW 1080 GPU. I'm currently running P3Dv3 with outstanding results and have been thinking of giving v4 a try. I have two options. First option, I have a spare 1tb SSD which I can do a clean install of Windows 10 and install P3Dv4. My drives do not see each other so I don't cross contaminate each other and this allows me to build up one drive while still fly on the other drive. This way I am never down a simulator. The other option is to just go ahead and build up a new system. I've been wanting to build another one and eventually moved the old flight box as a client. I'm leaning towards the 7700K at the moment. Not sure how much of a jump I will see going from 4790K to 7700K. I know v4 is still in the growing process with add-ons so the other drive/box will keep me going as v4 add-ons become available.

If anyone has feed back or new CPU suggestions I would be grateful. If the 4790K is doing great with v4 than I don't have to worry about extra expenses for now and will just install in the spare drive.

I'm running a 4700k at 4.5ghz with a 1080 and am very happy with the results. Will skip the 7700k and wait another generation or perhaps even two.

I'm running P3D v4 with a i7 4790k (plus a 1070) and i'd say i'm getting slightly improved FPS over v3..

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Looks like I'll go with clean install on spare drive.

I'm running a 4790K @4.6 w/ GTX 980. I also intend on getting a new PC when the native 64-bit add-ons begin to flourish. Whether the 7700K @5 GHz with a 1080Ti will satisfy the power requirements for max settings and lots of native 64 bit add-ons is anybody's guess. For now, as long as I remove the speed trees and dynamic reflections, the 4790K with cores 1-3 topped off and the 980 at approx. 99% it does quite well.

I'm just glad more conversations like this are going to drown out the VAS OOM concerns of the past.

I'm running v4 on an i7-4790k also at 4.7 and it works great, no problems whatsoever!

Cheers!

4790K here as well and I'm not planning to make any changes any time soon as v4 is running pretty well so far.

Russ - I just got a new computer with a 7700 @3.6 and a GTX 1050 Ti, so i should expect pretty good performance out of P3d V4? It seems everyone is running with a GTX 1080 or similar, but I got a great deal on the rig i bought that included the GTX 1050 ti. I went with it. I was somewhat hesitant to try v4 due to the video card, but perhaps I should give it a go?

Cheers, Pete

I concur with all the above.  I'm running a 4790 overclocked to 4.5 with a 1080 FTW. Using A2A's 172, and flying around FSDT KCLT with all the Orbx goodies I can I am getting frame rates over 60 - using 4K textures and all of the sliders maxed out

I have 3 27" monitors and when I enable them all I still get FR above 40.  With the release of the QOTS-II I am getting steady FR of 26 or better.

The only thing I may do is increase the ram from 16 to 32 GB but not sure if that is warranted.

You may have to play with the sliders,  but it should run pretty well.

MHO, of course!

I'm running a 4820K overclocked to 4.5Ghz with a Titan X (Maxwell). I am pretty happy with the results. I find that dynamic lighting and dynamic reflections impose a huge performance hit, so I have both turned off at the moment.

I just picked up a 4960X from eBay for $225. (Not bad for a processor which costs >$1000 when it was brand new in 2013) This will increase my thread count from 8 to 12. (hyperthreading on) Hopefully, the additional cores improve performance. (in theory, it should) I did notice v4 puts a heavy load on all cores and pushes the GPU much harder.

I'll let you know how it goes if anyone is interested.
