FSUIPC5 guide for absolute beginners

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

I am a RW 320 pilot looking to set up FS labs A320. To that end, I have recently bought a copy of P3D V4 and I'm having a lot of trouble setting up my Saitek Pro thrust quadrant, MadCatz joystick and Saitek rudder pedals.

I am looking for an idiots guide to FSUIPC5. Although there is indeed already a lot of information from Pete Dowson and others about this software it all assumes a certain amount of knowledge that I simply don't have.

I have tried to register on Pete's support Forum so that I can ask this question but I never received the registration email despite the site saying that it's been sent (yes I've checked my junk mail folder)

The video's that assist to some extent don't seem to be quite the same as what I'm looking at.

I would appreciate your help.

There's a users guide that should come with the install (look in the Modules folder)

FYI, the FSLabs 320X is not compatible with v4 just yet. Might have to wait until end of summer according to their support forum.

For the FSL A320 I have found that setting up the axis as normal works best.  So, under the Axis Assignment Tab.  click rescan and move the thing you want to assign.  make sure you put a DOT in SEND TO FS AS NORMAL AXIS.  then use the dropdown list to assign.  You want the following and rescan between each setting.

STEERING SET & ELEVATOR

THROTTLE 1 SET / THROTTLE 2 SET if you have a throttle quad otherwise just THROTTLE SET

SPOILER

FLAPS

RUDDER / LEFT BRAKE and RIGHT BRAKE if you have a rudder set.

For the items that are SET, you are done.  For the others go over to the Joystick calibration and calibrate the range for the specific items you want.  I think with some messing around of these settings you will have everything working fairly quickly.

EDIT - Sorry forgot something.  for reverse you need to set up a range on the rights side of the Axis Assignment page.  Move the throttle into the reverse range and then under "Control sent in range" put THROTTLE (1,2) DECREASE.  Check down so it only engages the reversers when you are moving down through the range.

Thanks so much people.

ZLA Steve:

I am aware the 320 is not ready for V4 as yet, I'm just trying to get an understanding of how to use P3D and FSUIPC first so that when it is I know my elbow from my backside;-)

I'll have a look at these and see how I go, I appreciate your help people.

Cheers.

You'll need to in order to keep FSUIPC up to date. There have already been 12 updates these last 10 days to deal with all sorts of problems, so it is now up to version 5.101k. Here's a link you can use for now (but it will no doubt not be valid in a day or so, whenever the next one is released):

FSUIPC5101k_TEST.zip

Both P3D4 and FSUIPC5 are ongoing developments, so expect P3D4 updates too. It's just that I bring them out daily (though I'm away for a week soon) whilst Lockheed-Martin and quite so fast. ;-)

The link on the Sales site and on the Schiratti "Dowson" page only ever points to the latest main version, the one built into an Installer. I shall be releasing a full Installer version including all the updates to date, probably onmonday morning if things go to plan. It will still be labelled 5.1 but will install 5.102.

As for a beginner's guide, it really depends on what you want to do, why you are getting FSUIPC5. Mainly, FSUIPC is an interface for other programs, so you need to do nothing other than install it. With the purchased version you effectively get a bag of tools, most of which are simple on their own but may look daunting when presented to you in a big bag. Just use the Content list near the beginning of the User Guide to look up the things you are after.

If you don't know what you want to use it for, don't buy it yet. Just install it and read the User Guide first, then decide.

Pete

Thanks Pete,

I only just saw your notice now. I did find your beginners guide for version 5 thanks. I am looking to setup the FSL labs as accurately as is practicable to assist with training. By all account your software is necessary to accurately set rudders, tillers and thrust levers etc. I've updated to 5.102 now and I've finally got it working with a little help from someone much more familiar. I've had a lot of problems with conflicts between my Saitek quadrant and my joystick and rudder which I managed to resolve as per your instructions.

As for forums registration there seems to be a problem using Hotmail so I switched to the work account and its all good, thanks.

Thanks again for your help.

Aidan

Much depends on the timing of the upcoming P3Dv4 hotfix, which hopefully, will be available within the next couple of weeks. Once the hotfix is released, beta testing on the A320X for P3Dv4 will begin.

The 'simfight forums' where Pete's support site resides is an absolute PITA. I spent the best part of a YEAR, simply trying to receive an email confirmation.  Thankfully, FSUIPC is such a great piece of kit and, the documentation so good, that one very rarely needs support.

I promised myself I'd never purchase from simmarket again, but alas, they sell stuff that's not available elsewhere.

Thanks! However Lefteris on the "ETA" thread, didn't mentioned anything about waiting for a hotfix. The meaning of his post was that its out soon. Couple of weeks he said from P3Dv4 release...So it should be out soon.
