Flight Simulation on Steriods

Recommended Posts

I bet I am not alone.

I have a "robust" FSX, absolutely loaded with payware and freeware everything....sitting on its own HD collecting dust.

I "moved" to P3D V3++ in April 2016, and started loading it up with payware and freeware...its in pretty good shape, very entertaining. And now....

May 18, 2017 I really thought I should move forward into 64bit, and I bought XPlane 11, spend a few weeks, learning, and downloading like mad, as there are bazillions of great addons. Totally blew my internet limit. And dove into this new sim, love it! Out comes FSW...I basically ignored.  Just didn't think it was going to be the real deal, don't like the steam thingee.

Opps, wasn't paying attention, didn't realize that LM were launching their new V4...ah hell, so I just bought it June 6 th. OMG I can't keep up, the forum threads are filling my inbox.

Its flight simulation on steroids. I'm jumping around between sims, I'm downloading this and downloading that, I'm trying to get stuff installed, fix the issues, read the threads on this and that issue.

Spent the last week totally immersed in P3D V4 world. This sim is a dream come true. XP11 and P3DV4 are fantastic platforms....I will go broke trying to get them beefed up.

Now what?

There is no way in heck I can keep this up, I can't keep downloading everything in sight. Its possible to spend an entire day, without food and water trying to keep up. I do not have enough time nor money to support multiple platforms.

Only to hear today that there is a couple more flightsims on the way.

Dear wife.  Please forgive me. But I'm addicted to flight simulation and I need help getting out of this mess.

Hi Bryan,

It surely are mad times for flight simming... and how farther can it go than Level-D announcing the 757 (which we al thought was dead for many years??). It seems new developments are going to rain down like hailstones from a hurricane. And surely we are not going to be able to keep up with it on every front (XP,FSW,P3D,AF2,...new platforms...). For starters it costs too much, but secondly it also means spending more time in organizing all of it! Suddenly I got the feeling ( I AM LOSING IT MAN!! I NEED TO MAKE A DECISION ON ONE OF THOSE).

So I chose... P3D V4 as the successor for my beloved FSX 32-bit. This decision was made 23rd May 2017.

It was strengthened by the comments made by the CEO of PMDG, and I am confident it was the RIGHT decision.

I also own XP-10/11 but I do not like them very much. UI is irritating me and there are some aspects missing which FSX/P3D always had. Too much to point it out right here.

I never went full throttle on spending money on a sim, but now the VAS is not the limit any more and I can yank up the throttles for a full takeoff and buy all of the addons I dreamt of without getting trashed by a sudden CTD (made basically my mouse and keyboard fly harder than the speed of sound).

So yes, these are good times and I love it! Stick to one platform, enjoy the feeling.
