P3D V4 - Can't get rid of microstuttering

I'm working on my new web site (http://www.p3dwiki.com) specifically for P3D V4 ... it's taking me some time to organize my data/info, but I hope to have something going by July "ish".

Sounds interesting, looking forward to it.

In addition to my p3d wiki site, I'm also working on my Xplane wiki site.

Both sites are non-ad, non-profit ... just take it or leave it information that I hope helps other flight simulator users.

Eventually I'll use them to launch some projects I've been working on ... but that's probably a year or two away.

Cheers, Rob.

I haven't tested AffinityMask settings on my 7700K yet.  But I highly encourage anyone using P3D V4 to experiment with AM settings.  The goal should be to balance out your CPU and GPU ... pegging either one or both at 100% is going to cause stutters.  The Lower you operate your monitor Refresh rate, the less stutters you'll have as you don't need to sustain higher FPS.

This is my trouble.  I have a 7700K HT off w/ a gtx 1080ti.  For the life of me, even after using numerous AM settings, I still can't get core 0 to anything lower than 100%; core 0 just stays pegged at 100%.  I believe that is why I think I am getting stutters.

It's advisable to get P3D off of core 0 since windows likes to use that specific core.  I'm afraid stutters are just something we learn to live with in P3D, but there are ways to mitigate it considerably.  Moving P3D off of core 0 and giving it it's own core helps a bit, giving it some headroom, so to say, to breathe and do it's thing, Note though that whatever core you assign, P3D will still have a usage of almost 100% or close to it at least.    Running process lasso seems to help me a lot, while nothing else appears to work.  Not even locking frames internally or externally.  I run a 1080 27" 144hz monitor that seems to like frames at unlimited and gives the smoothest performance.  My hardware is similar to yours, although I'm running a 6700K @ 4.5 GHZ with a 1080ti.

Thank you kindly.

So now my next question...how do I get the sim off of core 0?

With an Affinity Mask .

Use the search function and you will find a lot on how to set it up. Or just search for Steve Waite as he is the AM expert around.

hello, hope anyone can help here:

when i set my montor to 30 Hz, and fix the frames in P3Dv4.2 to 30frames, then i got an stable smooth simulation.
But: i have 2 Monitors, when i undock any window from P3D this will reduce the frames to the half: exact 15frames.
this is when i leave the undocked window on Monitor 1 or when i take the undocked window to monitor 2. When i dock the window
to P3D, then i got the stable smooth 30 frames back. when i fix FS to 60 frames P3D will show near 60 frames, but i undock a window, i get 30 frames, but not stable, whith stutters.

So i can not use the 30 Hz this way to get an smoother simulation.

but when i not use the 30Hz, i have an other Problem:
When P3D is "in focus" (i mean, the P3D-window in System is active) then i got lower frames, with stutters as when i have an other
window in focus (active in Windows) - the frames in P3D also gone up to the half! -
I have wrote some entrys in more then this forum, but nothing can help. got none responce to this.

sorry maybe for bad english...

I was getting stutters too... The fix was killing a process called lightningservice.exe... It has something to do with Asus Aura (RGB Lighting)... for some reason it was taking around 5% to 10% of CPU usage and was really messing with my P3D experience (long pauses, stutters, taking forever to load autogen, etc)... I uninstalled Aura and everything is awesome now...

Thanks, I'll look around.  I don't seem to have "lightningservice.exe" but thanks for the idea.

I thought you were on XP11 a long time ago?  Anyway, good luck ... all the platforms I've used have required that I put some effort into removing stutters, even AF2 ... the more I add to any platform the more it stutters, fortunately I've been able to reduce the stutters via compromising settings or add-ons ... doesn't matter which platform I fly, the stutter mitigation process is present in all of them, just takes a little effort and compromise.

I'm interested in what HiFi can do in XP11 ... but SkyMaxx Pro and xEnviro have a healthy head start and I'm not sure exactly how HiFi can improve on the limitation of the weather system in XP11 even with unconventional access to the core (if HiFi are using a similar approach).

Cheers, Rob.
