June 13, 20178 yr Don't know if this is a 980Ti thing only but just like in V3 I'm finding that setting the water slider to Ultra causes the P-State to drop from P0 to P2. The only way to get it back up to P0 is to select a setting lower than Ultra then re-start the sim. In V3 I just had to lower the setting and a restart was not required. Anyone else seeing this. gb. June 13, 20178 yr Yes! Same here, same gpu. Did point this out in another recent thread but as no one responded I thought it was just a problem for me. Bob My comment was The pref level/state on past drivers also had an issue with using Ultra water. I did a check the other day and got the same result I couldn't confirm this as CPU-Z information on this appears to be greyed out for some reason. bob
June 13, 20178 yr I reported this 2 years ago. Never resolved...Apparently issue is due to the CUDA library put in use when ultra water is selected... https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/469972-selecting-ultra-water-detail-setting-causes-p2-state-lock-in-on-nvidia-drivers/
June 13, 20178 yr Not knowing what the P0 vs P2 performance degrade is , can you educate me ? I dont see that big of a downgrade going from ULTRA to high all-though HIGH is my default setting. Thanks Michael Moe Michael Moe

Found this from nVidia:http://docs.nvidia.com/gameworks/content/gameworkslibrary/coresdk/nvapi/group__gpupstate.html "P-States are GPU active/executing performance capability states. They range from P0 to P15, with P0 being the highest performance state, and P15 being the lowest performance state. Each P-State, if available, maps to a performance level. Not all P-States are available on a given system. The definition of each P-States are currently as follow: - P0/P1 - Maximum 3D performance - P2/P3 - Balanced 3D performance-power - P8 - Basic HD video playback - P10 - DVD playback - P12 - Minimum idle power consumption". Nvidia Inspector will display the current P-State active. gb. YSSY.
