See what's cookin' for us (still for FS9)...

I came accross this website by surprise. Those two well known names in the FS world (just to name Peter Wilding who is the guy behind the wonderful Flight Environment) are getting ready to release groundbreaking (pun not intended) set of new ground textures.Looking at their gallery of screenshots I was left in awe - there has been nothing of this quality and real look that has been released so far.See yourself: http://members.home.nl/vos69/USA.htmI am not even the part of their Beta team, I just had to share my appreciation for their upcoming work.Well done Folks,Dom

That is awesome. There are plenty of great projects in the works for FS9, and this is definately one of them....:DThanks for the link...Kevin

To me, it looks better than BEV.

I agree, I honestly was never able to notice a difference between BEV textures and the default textures (at least from the screenshots)...but the ones in this link are quite impressive.I just hope they manage to a) release the whole set before FSX comes out and :( do so within a reasonable price range.Derek D.

Derek, I'm glad you added "at least from the screenshots" to your opinion of the BEV textures. If you had them installed, you would definitely see the difference. With that said, these new entries to look very good though.Dave

Ditto, once again - the textures there look so crisp and lifelike. We are yet to see what other regions and seasons will look like but till far it leaves its competitors way back...Dom

Hi, Derek:I think that your two wishes will be granted.I read somewhere that they anticipate release perhaps as early as late February. That release date may slip to March.I also read, but can't recall where, that the price will be $29.95 for the complete package for the whole world. I am not sure what "the whole world" means, however. You know that it is going to be awesome, though.Wilson

Whoaaaaa that looks awesome! Thanks for the heads up on this! :)..specially these:http://members.home.nl/vos69/GE2006%20(17).jpgSchweeeeeeeeeet!!!!!! Those are the sharpest screenshots I have ever seen as well. That must be from a computer with 2 Pentium Extreme Editions @ 4.6Ghz & two hi-end ATIs :(

That must be from a computer with 2>Pentium Extreme Editions @ 4.6Ghz & two hi-end ATIs :( Yeah, I am waiting for it as it will be my last purchase for FS9. Flight Environment in my opinion beats up everything else out there (including one particular very popular addon) when it comes to clouds. Peter has this very rare talent of being artistic and realistic at the same time.I expect the same for ground textures and rumor is that they are going to cooperate with another very great addon as a weather generation engine. Considering they are most probably not going to charge unreasonable prices for every little season (so I don't have to spent hunderds of euros for a set of textures) and everything will match perfectly in one package, we probably going to have real winner!

I have all volumns of BEV, they don't look as realistic a those shots. What I would like to see is, a shot of the canyon wall in GE.

Wow, that looks awesome, but I bet all those auto-gen buildings will tank the frame rates. Textures are usually OK if they are kept reasonable, but auto-gen overload will definately come at some performance cost.As far as BEV, I really like the seasonal enhancements and when you get a few thousand feet above the ground, it really does look better than the default textures.Scott

Yes in the main these textures do look a step up over BEV and if the suggested pricepoint is correct then GE will be a winner. However, I have seen better freeware night textures - perhaps this is still work in progress and improvements will be made. One thing that I would like to see is a high altitude screenshot because as Koorby is candid enough to admit for his VOZ textures, highly detailed textures like BEV, VOZ FScene etc. tend to accentuate the pattern repeating phenomenon above 10000 AGL compared to the blander defaults. If you only fly the heavy iron you may as well stick to the defaults as you will only see an improvement during take off and approach and even then you should be too busy to admire the scenery.Bruceb
