P3Dv4 on an old PC?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

It depends what you are trying to do...

If you are trying to get your frame rates higher with FSX, then the GPU upgrade will offer less than overclocking your CPU further. FSX is vey much CPU bound. Ideally you need to be higher than 4Ghz with your CPU if it's still possible to overclock it.

Only then would I consider upgrading the GPU as the second step. Best to get the most mileage out of the CPU if you can and it doesn't cost any extra to do it..

(I still have a i7-2600K running at 4.2GHz with a GTX970 and its running fine with FSX and medium settings for scenery and water. The addition of the GTX970 replacing my original 560TI did not really increase frame rates that much, but the level of scenery detail/settings you could run for the scenery was able to be set higher and retain the smoothness in the sim).

A word about the GPU upgrade and the future...

IMHO, if you are planning to move to P3Dv4 and  you want to run high/max scenery settings, then I would consider at least the GTX 1070, but I suspect this is out of your budget given current GPU prices these days. The GTX1060 will run perfectly well with P3D v4 but I anticipate your scenery settings would need to be a notch down from max which could still be OK for you. It really depends how hard you want to push your system.

Regards
Mark

Yes thanks m8 i'm looking for a good mobo and cpu as well cuz even with the affinity mask mine is a toaster(100%on core #0 and around 60% for the other ones. Was thinking about ryzen 3 cuz its a cheap quadcore thats 60% better with a mobo that only costs 75$ but i don't know if it will handle that well. The other option is i3-8373k but it needs an expensive z370 mobo. With experience I learnt that 8gigs of ram was totally ok with v4, with around 6gigs being used at busy areas. Now the thing is gpu. My 750ti is maxed with around 50-100% useage). Btw i was looking for like a 4560k or haswell like that but these are so damn expensive but they use ddr3. For info I also run OMSI 2, ETS 2, BEAMNG, and maybe fernbus later. My target is to get a good 25fps when landing at AS EDDF  with FSL a320 for example or even the upcoming AS A330.I saw that PMDG stuff ran much better than airbus stuff. Tfdi is also on my wishlist  with trueglass so i need a proper advice for cpu.
