Are we dying out?

I have the PMDG 747-400X V2 and built a cockpit around it. I have 2 touchscreens, one for the overhead panel and the other for the CDU. Another monitor shows the displays such as the PFD etc. I would have bought the V3 apart from the lack of 2D panels. It would seem that PMDG consider that we cockpit builders are a dying breed (perhaps I am the last) and so there is no need for 2D panels. I would like to think that PMDG would encourage people to enhance their experience by at least giving us the opportunity to do so. However I admit that I am being a bit selfish as there are probably not enough people like me to make 2D panels worth including. It's a shame.

In the nicest possible way - I suspect most serious 744 cockpit builders are using PSX.

That said, I believe PMDG are working on a version of the Jumbo that will be more cockpit builder friendly.

You must be thinking of the original Aerowinx PS-1. PSX was specifically designed from the ground up for cockpit building and interfacing to external hardware. It's abilities in that regard go far beyond Project Magenta . It is able to run multiple synchronized instances of itself on multiple computers via TCP/IP

The panels you mention in the QOTS 744v3, including the overhead, can all be individually selected and positioned wherever you want them; even across multiple monitors.  I think you are missing out on a fantastic PMDG aircraft by not upgrading, especially with the latest P3Dv4 Flight Sim software.  I have found that this 64bit sim and the PMDG B744 aircraft combination run very smoothly indeed.  I accept that it's still early days for this combination of flightsim software, but in my opinion this is definitely the way to go!

Incidentally, Simon, there are several articles about PMDG working closely with Flight Deck Solutions (who produce professional cockpit hardware).  What a treat it would be to have a ready made or easily assembled Jetmax B744 or B744-8 cockpit for the serious home enthusiast - now that really would be something!!
