Looking to upgrade from my EVGA 970 GTX. Would the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SC 8GB PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card be a very noticeable improvement

Will use it with P3Dv4 and all of those goodies out there.

I'll be curious to see what kind of responses you get. I have the same card (EVGA GTX970) and have been wondering the same thing.

Is your 6700 a K version?  If so you should overclock it first (of course, with the prerequisite that you have good quality cooling).  Failing a CPU overclock the 1080 might help if you use high res display(s).  Any kind of "noticeable improvement" might just come down to better visuals, though.

Also, the FTW series from EVGA offer 10 Phase power while the SC card you linked to uses 5 Phase.  A FTW card might be worth the extra cost.

If you decide to move, you may want to get a 1080 with 11GB of memory - it's roughly the same price at places like NewEgg and Microcenter.

A 1080 with 11GB of memory?  I wasn't aware a manufacturer is offering that option (outside of the 1080 Ti... which is more expensive).  Numerous manufacturers are offering 1080's with 8 GB of 11Gbps memory (GDDR5X).  How do we get a 1080 with 11GB of memory?

So with an Intel I7 6700k 4.0 CPU would I see a worth while  benefit in spending the extra cash? What would that be?
