FS Global Ultimate Next Generation, worth it?

Hi,
Is it worth it to move from the old Ultimate to the new Next Generation? I only fly airliners and mainly at NA.
What is the advantages of the new NG version compare to the old one?

I have FreeMeshX but I haven't tried it yet.

The size of the installation I can deal with that, they say the NG loads faster and have better performance. However I'm in doubt about the performance since the mesh shouldn't be a problem with the hardwares we have nowadays?

It definitely loads much faster than older high-res meshs. On the other hand, while I didn't make a detailed comparison, I doubt mesh gives a noticeable performance hit these days.

If you fly VFR, you may find "texture snapping" to be more noticeable using (any) high-res mesh while flying low and slow.

The loading time you were talking about is the time when you start P3D or it's the loading time in the sim when flying?

Hi Michael.  Given the "texture snapping" you've observed, would you recommend something with a lower mesh resolution for VFR flying?

Tough question which I don't have a definitive answer for. You can of course throttle back mesh resolution in sim, but than it's a good question why buy an expensive addon mesh.

I (and others) have been trying to overcome that limitation which seems to be caused by several LOD mesh levels available and the next level just snapping in at a certain distance. Prepar3d4 might offer a solution using higher LOD values in Prepar3d4, and some are experimenting with it, so time will tell.

This may be a bit off-topic here, but there are several threads on the topic here at AVSIM and elsewhere. As far as I recall, none of them gave a really satisfactory answer so far.

Only you can answer that.  Your decision depends on how much utility you will receive from the product.  If you don't care about terrain then the utility will be low.

I find it important to have scenery rendered in a fashion that is at least good enough for me to look at it and see something that resembles the real world I fly over, and a good mesh is required for that. But also, something besides default landclass tiles are needed too, which is why I also invest in FTX Global products including OpenLC and regions.  What I like about the FSGU NG is how well the central plains of the US are rendered, one can see the gentle undulations and drainage from FL380.  No more table top flat, which only exists in a few places.

I'd say hell yes. This was in v3 departing LFMN.  I've used them all, this takes the cake. Used with a Samsung 960 Evo 1TB drive
