Interesting Gem - Delivery Flight

Recommended Posts

Checking FlightAware for 744 routes active, I see a delivery of a former abandoned 744 from AZ to CA.  Wonder who is going to be using it?

It landed at San Bernardino (SBD).

Yeah I'm wondering where it's heading, or rather who the operator is gonna be.  It went from "scrapped" to flying again.  Interesting.

ETA:  They have a website too, this delivery company.  http://www.jettestandtransport.com/

San Bernardino is a big airport without any traffic in an area with highly depressed economy.  Cheap space.  There are several large MRO facilities and a paint shop capable of a B744 (I presume).  I lived there as an Airman when it was Norton AFB in the late 60s.

I use that feature all the time to find 744 routes of reasonable length.

What is the website you are using in the second screenshot?

https://www.adsbexchange.com/

Click the "Global Radar View" button, but to give you a heads up, it usually loads in Europe for me, and when you scroll around it takes a long time to refresh.  I usually try and scroll to the area I want to look at before it can load the planes, because it is slow.  It will display all ADS aircraft, even without flight plans, such as local police helicopters and such.

I've been in that exact helicopter, doing exactly that.

Oh the perks of working at an airport, and working the overnight shift. I finished a shift one night, and my co-worker was like "hey, wanna go on a police ride-along?" I've never been a fan of helicopters, but...why not?

Why are you not a fan of helicopters? It's not like they are a 10000 pieces of metal trying to fly away from each other, held by some string and a little bit of oil... ;-)

Helicopters don't fly, they beat the air into submission.

You'd never see me in a helicopter - not a single engine one, at any rate. At least you've got a chance in a single engine fixed wing a/c doing a forced landing if something goes wrong. Gotta have square cojones to fly in one of those heli things.

Does this mean G-VROC is going to be back into airline service then? That would be nice to see. It won't be flying as G-VROC, obviously, but nice to think someone is digging out a Jumbo from the desert to put back into use.

First time I went on a heli was a 30 minute flight from Karratha, Western Australia out to an oil rig. Thankfully it was perfect conditions because I was terrified! Once you're in the air it's not too bad. It was an AgustaWestland AW139 for me, the glass cockpits in them are nice! The heli was like brand new too, no dings or scratches anywhere on the cockpit

In Phoenix?

Did you see that moron fly his eggshell R44 with a bride-to-be, her brother and a female photog from VMC to IMC into a tree line, killing all on board?  South America IIRC.  Senseless act of stupidity.  Recent news story.
