Cloud Brightness and PTA entry in exe.xml

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have two questions I'm hoping you'll be able to help me with:

1) How can I reduce cloud brightness at night?  I have the checkbox ticked, but they are still too bright and visible for my liking.  I have ASCA clouds - are they brighter than normal?  I have already turned down moonlight light levels by half.  On this night there is no moon, and I can see the clouds clearly.  The ground looks black.

2) Should the PTA entry in the P3D exe.xml file show as "active=false"?

Cheers,

Rudy

I don't think PTA needs to be in your exe.xml at all <??>. It's a completely standalone/independent application. You only run it, compile/rewrite P3D's shaders file - then run P3D.

PTA runs before start up, it doesn't interfere with anything once the sim is actually running so it shouldn't be in your exe.xml file at all.

Thanks guys - my mistake, Matt and Adam, it was URP in the ADD-ON file.  Not sure how I managed to get so mixed up with that.  Sorry about that.

And

Thanks, am giving your presets a go.  The only thing I don't like so far is that the ocean appears very very blue and saturated - having fiddled, this seems to be linked to the Rayleigh Scattering effect.

Thanks again, cheers,

Rudy

You can change the brightness of the blue. I use the darkest Envtex ocean water set with it.

With ocean water color there is always the problem that some seas are brighter in blue and others darker...

The problem I have when tweaking water colour is that it's very dependent on the current *sky* colour (and/or weather). I found it best (while testing) to use a relatively middle-of-the-road sky theme and always use the same scenario (which uses the same calendar date) as many sky sets cycle, depending on the day of the week.

Add to all that the fact that many *scenery* developers will use local sea textures and you have a real can of worms!

Adam.
