Using REX with Active Sky

Recommended Posts

I am just trying to understand this.

If I have REX textures for weather, in this case REX Texture Direct (REX4) and Soft Clouds installed...can I use the new Active Sky (ASP4) for the weather engine?

REX haven't released their Prepar3D v4 update yet if that is your intended platform

Yes, I linked it up and loaded in texture sets...its not quite right but its better than default.  I'll restore the textures once the new compatible version comes out.

Yes

OK good I thought I would try a different weather engine.

I use the older REX Essentials Plus OD for the weather engine.

What you will lose is the dynamic changing of cloud sets which you get using ASP4 with ASCA.

Just to clarify that a bit -

currently in any cloud program, REX, FEX, etc you select a cloud SET and it gets installed in your sim

during flight depending on the weather engine different cloud groups from THAT SET get injected into the sim

with dynamic clouds ASP4 determines, based on weather that a different SET would be better and changes it on the fly and then different groups from THAT set can be used.

Essentially it gives you a much larger selection during the flight.

Without that you can still get great clouds with the old method.

Thank you for that explanation. I have always used REX products, and I am satisfied with them. Still, it is good to learn what else is available.

I never went for this dynamic cloud update as it was an issue regarding VAS. As this is now eliminated (VAS problems), I could go for it. But as I already own REX4 TD and Soft Clouds, I guess I will also stick with it, otherwise it becomes completely obsolete...

What about ASP4+ASCA for wx, clouds, etc.

And REX TD Enh to enhance all non-wx related textures?

All in P3Dv4...

That works too! There are really a lot of options in this arena to mix and match to get what you like best.

Hello. I have REX 4 Soft Clouds Enhanced and bought yesterday Active Sky. How can i have the REX textures, instead the Active Sky textures?

The latest versions of ActiveSky do not include textures, it is solely a weather engine.
