P3Dv4 DC-6 5MB Disk Picture

Recommended Posts

Soooooo..

Was looking at this picture that was nicely placed inside of the PMDG / DC-6 / Flight Manuals folder and cant help wondering if this ia a picture of the PMDG team trying to figure out how to get Kyle's
PigeonWorks project in to the -6.  I can clearly make out RR standing with a map in his crossed arms watching this debacle take place as Dan Downs (closest to the door) watches on.

Kyle - well he is driving the fork lift!!  The other bunch of characters can only be the excellent motley crew at PMDG!

The exact historical significance of that evades my memory but in summary it is the very first drum memory storage unit built by IBM being shipped to a customer.  Before drum memory you had core memory and tape... the drum made a world of difference in computing and of course let to disc drives which got shrunk into HDDs and now loosing ground to SSDs.  By the way, the air data computer in the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter had drum memory.

Crazy - pretty cool when you see how far technology has come!

Clearly - no one liked my sense of humour!  Maybe the beer up here is Canada is just stronger or has more bubbles which clouded my estimate of how funny my post was.
