Scenery LOD files

Hi All,I have recently started playing around with freeware mesh scenery to enhance my GA flights around the UK and other areas.I'm a bit confused by the LOD7, LOD9 and LOD10 files etc. I understand that these mean 'Level of Detail' but a more comprehensive explanation would be appreciated.Sorry if the info is already on here somewhere, I couldnt find it.Cheers, Kris

Hello Kris,No problem, the LOD grid is simply a rectangular quadrant that defines the terrain scenery elements. Increasing LOD numbers represent finer resolution. For mesh, this means more detailed files.The grid becomes progressively smaller as the LOD numbers increase:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/141807.jpgHere is the official LOD table from Microsoft:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/141808.jpgAs you can see, a LOD 7 mesh would have over 300 meters between data points, so it would not be very detailed or accurate, whereas a LOD 11 mesh would have 19 meters between the points and, so, would be much better.For more information, you can try Steve Greenwood's web site:http://www.fs-traveler.com/welcome.shtml Best regards.Luis
