It's a fine looking airport.  Any way you could make the color of the grass more realistic?

Shaun,

I've flown a lot of night freight into KBHM and one thing that stood out to me was when landing on RWY18 at night was the feeling of "flying into a black hole."  I could not tell from your pictures if that "black hole" feeling has been reproduced in your scenery?

Yeah, in prepared it's a unrealistically bright with HDR on, you can even see the unlit ground of the default scenery. With HDR brightness set to 0.6 it's darker like FSX and a lot more realistic. But then that wound't make for nice night lighting screenshots!

Thanks. Again, with HDR on it makes the brightness and color of the grass different, it's greener in FSX and without HDR. But it looks fine to my eye, what do you suggest?

Looks to me to be too bright and yellowish.  This image from google earth 2010 looks realistic if that helps.

That's the P3D shaders... But yeah, I see what you mean, I color corrected it with the surrounding default landclass, but it looks a little too bright which is exacerbated with the sun on it with HDR on. Shouldn't take much to bring the brightness down a little and recompile the photoscenery again. I'll do it for the update. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Shaun,

I live just a few miles from the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport, and I use to fly Cessna's in my day using runways 18/36. I have a question about your scenery. Should I remove the Alabama MegaScenery before installing your airport scenery? The reason I ask is because your scenery seems to include a large portion of the Birmingham area and I was afraid the 2 scenery files would clash, or maybe your files my not write over the old files correctly. How much of Birmingham did you include in this airport scenery? I wanted to find out before installing your airport scenery. By the way, I've noticed in the manual that the length for runway 18/36 is listed as 8,000 feet. The correct length is 7,100 feet. Looking forward to flying in and out of Birmingham with an updated new terminal.

Come on, is there a chance of a downtown and Red Mountain scenery with this?   The terrain is very very pleasing.  You gave us the Red Mountain Expressway Cut in Prepar3d!

"Downtown" and "Red Mountain" was not the focus of my post! You say the terrain is very pleasing! If it's that pleasing, Shaun may very well have included it in his airport scenery because the area around the airport looks nothing like the default in these photos! There are many developers of airport sceneries that include a general area around the airport! That is why I asked the question regarding it! If I knew, I wouldn't have asked the question, and ALL of my questions still have NOT been answered, and still waiting!

Sorry for the delay in replying. I don't think DVA was just saying that generally, not in response to your questions Ken.

Thank you for pointing out the error regarding 18/36's runway length. I shall amend the manual for the update due for release tomorrow.

As long as SXAD KBHM is higher priority than MegaScenery's  Alabama there should be no problem, as our photoscenery should be overlaid on top.

Or you could remove our photoscenery for greater continuity. Although our Autogen and scenery objects will still overly at Megescenery's imagery.

I would love to make the whole of Birmingham with custom buildings and photoscenery, that may come in future depending on the popularity of the Airport regarding sales. As it stands, it is unlikely.

I picked it up today.  The grass looks better...typical summertime burned and looks fairly realistic to my eye.  You could provide a springtime greener grass as a nice touch.  The area around the airport is interesting with the rolling hills...a really nice regional.  I've been to Burmingham once and was surprised at how beautiful it was.  One thing I'd really think about is to replace those default skyscrapers downtown with something more realistic...they're right there when you're on approach to 24.  It'd add a nice touch to the scenery and give people more of a reason to fly there.  I wouldn't worry about the whole downtown...just give people a sense that they're flying to a nice place.

EDIT:  Can you take some of the blue out of the mines?  It looks good what you did there...it just looks very blue.

Hi Shaun,

I installed your Birmingham Airport and just left the Alabama Mega Scenery installed. It did as you said that your scenery overlapped the Alabama Mega Scenery, as I figured it would. But I can tell the textures in your scenery are a little different from the actual image in Alabama Mega Scenery and they don't quite blend or match. Is there a way for me to remove those textures and still keep the airport intact? If not, it's no big deal, but you did a good job with this airport.

I started developing this airport back in 2015 and it turned out very good. But I didn't like the detail where you could not destinguish between the inside corners of the building when there is no sunlight on the object after it was converted in MCX. The program I use to develop the new terminal was Sketchup, which is use by many professional architects to deign models, and is very accurate. But it requires that you convert the files to a bgl file in MCX so that it can be used in FSX. If I put sunlight on the subject, it looks great. But if it's shawdowy, there's no destinction and all seems to blend. I had this file installed in my own simulator but uninstalled it when yours became available.

Hi Shaun,

Where do I go to download the update? I don't see it on the SXAD website.

Ken.
