We discussed the SODE topic already. No, no SODE, no FSUIPC, no special addons....

Quoting you:

I have one SODE airport installed but it is way to small to land there

Do you or do you not have SODE? If you have SODE installed (even if you're not at that airport) try and disable it.

Sorry being not precise: SODE is uninstalled for the time being.

Today I started another flight, LEBB to LEMG. About 70 nm south of EBLL At cruise lebel of 10.000 feet I click on the yoke to lower it and end up into a CTD with ntdll.dll.

LEBB from ORBX and LEMG from AS with FTX Global and ORBX Europe LC and UT2. I have tried with and without UT2 - no success.

System is I7 6850K@4.4 (certified for 4.4) with WIN7 64bit andn GTX 1070. Both are watercooled and running below 50C. All options are set to normal.

I don't have any idea what to do to get done a successul flight with this great aircraft. And as it seems to be only a problem of a minority of DC-6 users - what is the common between this users? I also have SODE installed. I have FSDT with addon manager and COATL.

Cheers,
Michael

I never had a single crash at any of the FSDT airports. In fact, I am now fully avoiding SODE airports and behold, no crashes, not a single one. However as soon as I fly from SODE airports /the ones I have the crash are DD NYAV2, Flightbeam KMSP, Flightbeam KIAD, Flightbeam KDEN so far/ I crash most of the time after starting to taxi.

But no issues at FSDT airports such as FSDT KCLT, FSDT KMEM for example. It cannot be the Addon Manager or Couatl then.

After about 3 hrs flight, again CTD while landing.... I noticed that upon P3DV4 hat crashed, shortly afterwards AS16 was ended with the notice that it could not provide the actual wx anymore.

The log did not reveal any error.

I made my first successful flight! What I've done : FSDT Live Update (But that seems to be update vehicles only) and I switched to Hyperthreading. Never done it before and so it was just a try. My flight from LEBB to LEMG ended with a seamless touchdown and parking to the ramp.

So, I'm not sure if that was only a one time success. I will try it on later on again with other airports.

Michael

Ok, I give up, the DC-6 stays at its hangar until a solution is found.

I had three CTD today in three flights. The last one in the middle of a flight. No SODE, no FSUIPC, no Addons, no ideas any more. The log is attached. I added the log to my ticket.

This line (above) caught my eye ...

One of the many things I tried was to save a panel state for all my DC-6 variants. I've not had any CTDs for a while, so it may just be a solution. Sadly, I was so frustrated at the time I made the cardinal error of changing too many things at a time - so can't be sure that's what did it.

Adam.

Hi, everyone. My name's Chris Powell. I'm the lead developer on the DC-6 FSX/P3D project.

"Dismay." There's no better word to describe my feelings on this matter. I and the rest of the team take great pride in our work, and to have our plane CTD in this manner is thoroughly distressing. All of our DC-6 efforts these past days have been focused on tracking down the cause of this problem.

The worst thing is, we cannot reproduce the crash at all in-house. I have a saved scenario with the plane on final, and I have done landing after landing trying to replicate the crash. I've tried different permutations of hardware and mouse. I've taxied slowly around KGON (a reported problem airport) for ages attempting to witness the crash. I've landed with AFE on, I've landed with AFE off. Never once have I CTD'd. For me and the rest of the team, the plane is rock solid. That's frustrating, because I can't fix what I can't reproduce

This of course is scant relief to you who are being routinely disappointed by the crash.

So far the only commonality we can identify is it seems to be confined to Prepar3D v4. Beyond this I venture into raw speculation. Here are some of our nascent ideas:

  • Could it be a particular add-on or cocktail of add-ons that somehow affect our plane?
  • Could it be an issue with certain sound cards (USB sound, maybe?) that causes a crash when a particular series of sounds are played in quick succession?
  • Could it be something in our ground-model?
  • Could it be related to add-on scenery, mesh resolution, or other graphics options?
  • Could it require a specific set of DC-6 options to be enabled?

Furthermore, what's damned peculiar is this: even for those who do witness the CTD, it doesn't happen dependably. Whatever it is, it must require very specific preconditions to manifest. And when you think about all the options, add-ons, and sim preferences that are potentially involved in this crash...ouch. For a developer, this is a nightmare scenario, I assure you.

I have nothing concrete to tell you at this point, other than we are listening and we are working hard to pin this down. I wanted you to hear it directly form me so that you know your disappointment is heard, registered, and being acted on.

I have one request at this point: make sure you're updated to 8418 via the OC. At least let's all get on the most current version and remove one variable from the mix.

Regards,

Chris

Chris - thanks so much for posting. We share your pain!!! I don't anyone doubts PMDG's commitment to quality - and so this must be particularly distressing (and frustrating) for you.

I too suffered from dozens pf CTDs - up to the point where flying the DC-6 was a "no-go". I persevered and, for some reason or other, they stopped ... so I'm kind of where you are now.

The only approach I can think of is to take a totally "virgin" PC and install P3Dv4+DC-6 from scratch. My gut feelng is that some lookups or values fail initially, then (in some cases) get sorted with time.

For what it's worth, I've always run the NGX with no problems - on the same system and with the same cocktail of add-ons.

Adam.

Hi Chris,

thanks for posting your comment.

I figured one thing in all these CTD: The audio from the AFE missed calls. You saw the green line with the action printed on the screen but no voice was heard. The next checks the calls were back. I don't know if that's a clue or not, but I wanted to mention it.

Another idea: Could you define a certain setup for all of us to use, like Departure/Destination, wx or no wx, flight plan or not, settings in P3DV4 etc., so next to the latest build we have a common setting (as much as possible) to go and report from.

Just my 2 cents.

Regards

Gunter

Famous last words! I got another CTD! Here's the story: using the FE (as I usually do) ...

1) Load a previously saved "Cold & Dark" scenario.

2) Do a manual engine start, but with the usual FE checklists/call outs. Last one being "After Start".

3) Do a taxi up to the runway - then turn onto the runway.

4) Just prior to doing a 180 deg turn at the end of the runway, I thought I'd start the "Before Take-off" FE checklist.

5) CTD immediately after the final FE call out ("... check completed").

My shaders cache was cleared just prior to this flight as I'd made a slight tweak in my PTA settings. Prior to that, I haven't cleared the cache for a fair while.

Nothing CTD related in the log: it just stops recording more or less during taxiing.

Adam.

EDIT: THis was with 8418.

One more disappointed customer here: the DC6 is crashing at taxi and at touchdown (taxi is random but the touchdown CTD happens every time). The taxi CTD happens without any report from windows event, the touchdown CTD leaves reports (Kernel.dll fault and sometimes ai.dll fault module). I see the problem both in the sim full of addons and the vanilla version of P3d4, now I have a fresh install of Windows 10 and P3d4, just installed a photoreal scenery but without any addon airports, just ASP4 + ASCA. Before the last update 8418 the DC6 was ok and the performance was very ok in fps, now the DC6 runs with more stutters, now it seems to be "heavier" on the system, but sending ASP4 on the background partially improve the performance, but the CTDs remain.

Today I'll try to load the DC6 after the default P3d flight, this seems to be good for some other complex planes.

My system: GTX 1080, I7 4790, 16Gb ram.

Chris - thank you for taking the time and getting back to us, really appreciated!

Any chance you could try the following please (provided you have access to all add-on products listed below). This scenario gave me a 100% crash to desktop.

Add-on products:
Drzewiecki Design KLGA
Flightbeam Studios KMSP
FSDT GSX
Prepar3D v4

1. Please park the DC-6 at stand H10 at Drzewiecki Design's new KLGA
2. Set up a Cold and Dark cockpit
3. Push back using GSX (it will only offer a straight pushback without turns) and stop the pushback when the nose gear passes the yellow taxiway line.
4. Start up the aircraft using the AFE.
5. Commence taxi by turning left onto the taxiway
6. See of you get a crash to desktop within approximately 150 meters of ground movement.

Another two scenarios where I ended up crashing to desktop were at Flightbeam's KMSP. Same protocol as described above, but this time, park the aircraft at KMSP stand H16 and try taxiing on twy D towards twy W and RWY 30L as well as Flightbeam KDEN stand B69 or B71 followed by taxiing on twy BN towards RWY 17R.
