55 Fps with NGX in P3D V3 VS 12 FPS in P3D V4

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Maybe one of you out there can help me. I am having some performance troubles in P3D V4. I don't get why my FPS are so terrible with the PMDG NGX in V4.

In Version 3 I can run the NGX with 55 fps or more, but in V4 it's down to 10-15... with just the NGX!

I don't have the best graphics card on earth, (GTX 580), but it's not terrible, and I don't know why there is such a difference between the 2 versions??

I have played around with every setting there is in the sim, just nothing.

Can anyone offer me any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Dynamic lighting, SSAA, reflections and shadows all seem to be the cause of a lot of issues, especially flying at night or around addon airports.   I'm waiting for either PMDG or LM to come up with a fix.  If it weren't for the VAS issues, I'd go back to v3 until things get worked out.

You nailed it. Your video card won't run V4 well. Minimum is 2G video ram. The switch to 64bit and some changes internally make the video card more critical than in V3.

Can you run P3D V4 with 55 Fps with the NGX with your graphics card?

Is your performance the same or worse with P3D V3?

Have no idea - I don't pay attention to FPS, that is not any criteria of how well P3D is running. I lock my system at 20 and it's like glass.

If you do get a decent GPU, go for the LOWEST fps you can get with the smoothest performance.

Try dropping down to V3 settings and turning off all the new eye candy and you should be in the same ballpark.

Have you tried it with the V4 defaults first before touching anything? For me they were pretty spot on and only need a little tweaking Dynamic lighting and Dynamic 3d autogen seem to be big performance eaters on the GPU side.

Uncheck dynamic lights and you are good to go. Simple :)

Dynmic lights + SSAA brings my 1080ti to its knees. With MSAA it's ok.

Just to clarify:

Using MSAA instead of SSAA only lowers the general GPU usage, it has nothing to do with dynamic lights, in my opinion.

Meaning, depending on your GPU, you can run both if you leverage other GPU-heavy settings. It's just the fact that both are very heavy and take a big chunk of GPU processing power.

The oldest working card I still have is a 9800GTX and I dumped it for a GTX580 when ORBX came on the scene in FSX. I still have 2 GTX680s I ran FSX beautifully in SLI ( best thing I did was buy the 4GB VRAM models). Today I pulled the 980T1 and plugged the GTX 580 in to my setup (easy as it is an open bench) and fired it up ( or should I say tried to) I got a slideshow with hiccups. The 1.5GB VRAM on the 580 is the problem IMO. My 980TI with the NGX over Sydney in ORBX country runs to 4.2GB VRAM usage (on a 4K screen) but runs nicely at an average 25FPS with a slight dip  to 20-21 flying over the coathanger (terrain level is 9).

As always the results only apply to my setup.

BTW - 2gb VRAM is LM minimum for v4 they recommend 8GBs VRAM and I am below that with the GTX980Ti (6GBs).

With the NGX and v4 I suggest you are well under the VRAM spec to produce a flyable result.

Did some fps test ( sim at Slew ) with my overclocked 1080 Ti and saw no framerate drop from 4X MSAA to 8X SSAA on my triple view setup.

The slight distance shimmering is gone with SSAA.

I tested with one view 3/4 wide and used GPU Z to watch the load. It stays below 85% compared to 50-60% before.

The only thing I remarked was at the moment when many clouds or a lot of scenery objects were introduced in the scenery I got a little stutter at that moment. By limiting mt fps to a slightly lower value that was solved.
