Should I switch over to P3D on my current laptop

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've been using FSX for a few years now. I have no 3rd party addons installed except the aerosoft A320/21. My sim runs smoothly at around 15-40 fps with most of the sliders maxed out. With the release of P3D v4, I was wondering if I switch over to P3D, will my system be able to run it smoothly ?

My laptop configuration is :

Inter i7-4720HQ

8GB RAM ( which I could upgrade to 16GB)

Nvdia 860M Graphic CArd with 4GB memory

I have a built in 1TB HDD, no SSDs.

Thanks

9W

It all depends on your settings in P3D... you would not want to set high settings!

BTW, 8 GB RAM will do the job just fine.

What do you expect to gain by going to P3D?

I think if most were not already heavily invested in FSX, they would prefer to start and run in P3Dv4, it is simply more future proof.

X-Plane 11 would be my choice however, I feel its is even more future proof and better designed than P3D.

That system will choke in P3D v4 - XP11 would have issues as well - this assumes you'll be using addons in both.

about ram - depending on what other programs you run while you sim 8GB may be a bit tight.  I'm typically seeing system usage right near 8GB when I sim and occasionally my pc starts to page and I get huge stutters.  I plan on going 32GB for a new pc.  But I think that's overkill for P3D v4 - I use XP11 most of the time.
