Beating the Euro Currency Exchange

Recommended Posts

Guest byoung

Many of the creators of great add-ons only offer their products for sale in EURO.As you Americans know we take a substantial hit in the Currency Exchage. Has anyone really looked at this? Is there (legal) way to set up an account in a foriegn bank, get a good conversion rate from US Dollars to that currency, and THEN covert it to EURO?We (Americans) are geting the short end of the stick here. It is almost like a Foriegn Exchange / DUTY tax.Or am I just blowing smoke? Thanks!Barry

I don't understand the problem. Do you think you get a high coversion rate from your bank and are you informing which bank has the best conversion rate or what?Going over an extra currnecy wil only make it more expensive as you have to pay for 2conversion fee'sThe cheapest possible option for a product on CD is to get a European friend to buy it for you but... a European has to pay tax over the purchase. And your friend will have to send it to you so you get extra shipping also remember to ship it as a gift as otherwise you get to pay an import tax on it!With the current digital delevery systems you might get a European friend to buy the add-on using his creditcard but how would you give him his money back? The current pay in Euro's policy is there for a reason. The US dollar is not a strong currency so a non US developer can't make a profit when he sells in dollars

Well it's just how things work. Before the US$ crashed and burnt we Europeans were paying quite high prices for US addons instead, now we get a large discount :-lolAlso if we buy something from inside the EU we have to pay 17.5% VAT (foreign customers don't need to pay this...unless you order from Lago :-lol ) so it's only fair. However it looks like it's improving (for you). According to XE $1 is now worth

Which is why I'll pass for now on anything sold as Euro. I can surely wait until the conversion is better suited for my expectations. I remember being stationed in Japan back in the 80's and buying all kinds of electronics at bargain basement prices. Now the Euro's get the same discounts on our stuff. Fine by me, as it keeps more people employed, and our growth rate and economic health in check. As for the comment about the dollar not being a strong currency. That person needs to understand economics a bit before making such a statement, IMHO.Paying $40.00 USD for a single aircraft is just plain silly, IMHO, but each buyer has a choice to do what they will with their money. I just choose to keep mine a bit closer to home.Regards,Sonar5****************Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

I think you folks need to leave the backdoor political statements at the front door IMHO, even as your obvious subtleties are written. You really need to have an economics lesson before making the statements you just did. And that includes Jimmie as well, IMHO.JOIN The AVSIM RTW RACE FLIGHT TEAM****************Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Well if the publisher is located in the EU it makes sense that they use the Euro. It's not about "defamatory opinions"...it just makes sense that way. It's easy to think that your own country (whichever that might be) is in the center of everything but why should they adapt to the wishes of US customers? There are more people living in the EU than in the US. Why, shouldn't they sell their products for Chinese Yuan anyway? Or perhaps Rupees :)Just like it *doesn't* make sense for e.g. Flight1 to switch to the Euro. Arranging for sells in a foreign currency would probably cause extra expenses for the publisher. One option is to find some US publisher like e.g. PC Aviator that resells the product.

At last we get some of the money back we sluiced to the US for decades when we had to pay premium price for the Yankee Greenback.US products used to cost over twice here what they cost in the US due to exchange rates, now that's down to only 50% more.

You said:"He sure managed to p*ss off most of the EU though...but that belongs to some other forum"I don't think it was meant to be lighthearted or your next remark either. And yet you seem to just keep inserting them anyway.Keep up with the cheap shots, it defines who you really are.If think one single person defines an an entire economic policy, you really have no idea what you are talking about.****************Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Its the new world economy .. Its something we americans will have to get used to.Of course there is an alternative .. Tell your congressman we want to join the EU, and do away with the dollar. Then it will only cost you $30 euros.;)

Welcome to the club. We have been dealing with hefty US exchange rates in Canada on most everything Flight Sim related we buy. Now our dollar is up, and we are getting a small reprive.
