Delete Aircraft Variants

Recommended Posts

Newbie to XP...old hand at P3D...

Many  XP planes come with several paint schemes...

Many times all I want is 1-2 variants showing

in the Flight Configuration window....how to

disable a plane variant without deleting the

base plane and have the variant  ready to reactivate

if I want?

I've looked on the web but just can't find an

intelligent explanation...

Any help appreciated..

Simply remove the unwanted liveries in the plane's Liveries folder

Thanks Martin...pretty simple it seems...is there a way to

"comment"  a livery out so that it remains in the Livery

folder but aren't read by the program?....for example

if the Livery is called "Black and Gold," just rename it

"XXBlack and Gold"?

Another question if I might....I have installed several

airplanes in the "Aircraft" folder....they show in the Flight

Configuration Window but not all the liveries....what has

happened?..

Thanks for your help....John H

1. As already mentioned, why don't you just move the liveries you don't want to use outside the liveries folder, seems like the easiest solution? Or just zip it and delete the folder, that way you can just unzip it and reuse it when you want?

2. Go to outside view and select, developer menu ->  Regenerate icons for current aircraft. That should pick up all the liveries. You can also do this withing the aircraft selection screen.

Thanks Glen for your reply...to be sure we're on the

same page..I'm using the current version of XP 11...

I have placed my "add-on" planes in the "Aircraft"

sub-folder...is that the correct folder to use?...I have an add-on plane called

the Stinson L-5g ...it shows two liveries in the Liveries folder

....for fun I deleted/transferred those liveries to another folder outside

of XP...the plane still shows up with three instances

under Flight Configuration...is that what's supposed to happen?...

And, I tried your "Regenerate Icons" tip...it did not help, probably becasue

many of my add-on planes with multiple liveries show up under the Flight Configuration

with a "?"......can that be cured?

Sorry for all the questions...I'm new to XP.....steep learning curve...

Your thoughts appreciated...

Welcome to the world of X-Plane =) like any flightsim it has its own ways of doing things.

If a plane shows if with a grey silhouette and question mark that means X-Plane couldnt find the icon for the plane (and selected livery). XP11 has a different icon for its lanes than xp10 so if you install any planes not made specifically for XP11 then you will come across this issue. As mentioned above, to solve this issue you can load the plane into a scenario then using the Developer > Regenerate Icons menu. This will load each livery for the current aircraft and XP will create an icon for it in its current state. So if the lights are on before choosing this option, the lights will be on in the icons created.

If you switch to an outside view (shift-8) you can see XP load the different liveries.
