Holding pattern....NY Weather

Recommended Posts

Being a simmer, I sometimes just grab a plane and fly, hehe.  This turns out not to be the best strategy when using Active Sky and weather IS an issue at your destination, LOL!

Well....I shoulda checked notams and sigmets before I launched this big German lady from Tampa to KJFK.....

This is what was waiting for me after an uneventful trip up the East Coast of the US....

As I got near to New York....it was very clear that turbulence was going to swat this giant metal bird as if it was a fly if I elected to venture into it.

Active Sky was very accurately depicting the weather over the Big Apple, faithfully reproduced in the PMDG's weather radar (Got to love where we're at in flightsim application integration!)

Steve decided he didn't want anything to do with that weather monster...so he's holding over the Atlantic just off the coast...hoping to find a hole in it soon...1+ hours of hold time left, I may be going to Boston.

In the real world, of course ATC would issue a gate hold for me, and I'd be sitting at Tampa waiting for this to clear...but sometimes its fun to just manage the flight as if the weather suddenly dropped in on NYC...Bushing up on my hold procedures if nothing else. :)

Sitting in Boston, staring at the finger imprints I permanently depressed into the yoke handle. :senyum:

Boston was swamped with other diverted flights from the NY area...I had to declare emergency fuel to get priority handling.   It was a challenging flight to say the least.

All those silly AI aircraft who wanted to land before me...Ha!

Nice!  I hope you filed KBOS as your alternate before you left.  Cause if not I have a # for you to call pending an investigation.  :-)

You may be a baaaad pilot, but at least you were flying ein gutes Flugzeug..

Hehe....your namesake Scott....It's the only M  model I have installed, although I painted them all. .  Figured I'd give you some props when I could...besides, TB is only good when referring to aircraft registrations...in the healthcare field, not so much.

One of these days if a good 737 300 comes along to P3d I'll paint my namesake (kinda')....D-ABEK.  Replace the - with and R and you have my last name.

So, you could taxi to the gate? When you're done with that number, could you pass it this way maybe?

Hehe I'll pass it on to you.

Yeah those little Ford Escorts didn't want to try and stop several hundred tons of airplane...they must'a figured it'd be better to let me park. :)

Thanks Steve, really appreciate it. I left you a message in the forum explaining my situation .

And while I'm here, thanks for all the awesome contributions you have made to help the rest of us look good in the skies, Lufthansa 507 just wouldn't be the same without your work.

You're welcome R. Francois!

I'm a huge fan of Lufthansa, love painting and flying the airline.

In fact I've added this mini-LH to my photo-tail fleet:
