What are good things to get for P3D v4?

Recommended Posts

Late next week I will be getting my new computer and I will be using P3D v4. What are some add-on's that are must have for P3D v4? I see  Edit Voicepack is now payware for P3D v4 so I will be getting that. But what other things should I get (like stuff for weather)?

Also what are some good freeware planes to download? I am currently a FS9 user and I am guessing all of my favorite FS9 planes will not work in P3D so I will need some good planes. I would be looking for military, commercial, general aviation/biz jets, and helicopters. I know of a lot of real good payware stuff, but I will not have much money left after I pay for the computer.

I have thought about installing FS9 also on the new computer so I can continue to use my favorite FS9 things, but I haven't decided if I will do that yet.

Think most people would recommend Active Sky 2016 for weather, there are other options but AS16 + ASCA Active Sky Cloud Art really go well together. As far as aircraft your categories cover just about every genre so you'll have a lot of options but IMO you tend to get what you pay for with aircraft with a few exceptions. Look for reviews here and elsewhere and you'll be in a position to make an informed decision for yourself.

So I know you mentioned you are a FSX/P3D guy. But have you considered XP11? I personally don't have it, I'm simply recommending it due to you looking at primarily freeware stuff, for which XP has much to offer. Now, admittingly, I haven't downloaded any freeware stuff for my sim since the days of POSKY, Project Airbus, way back when. But from what I have read over the years, the amount of good freeware in the FSX/P3D world is dwindling. And I would imagine even more so in P3Dv4. Now I may be entirely wrong, and for all I know there is a plethora of good freeware stuff out there. I only fly commercial airliners of the study sim kind, so I haven't really been looking at freeware for quite some time

I am not looking primarily for freeware. I am just looking for good freeware to get started. I will be buying payware planes, just not at first. I will not have the money after I pay for the computer.

And yes I have thought about XP11, but I decided on P3D because of the stuff that is already out and most of the developers will be making stuff for P3D. I also like flying with full AI, and XP11 doesn't seem to support AI (I could be wrong about that).

Wow, an open end.

Two really great freeware items are the Manfred Jahns C-47 and the Basler BT67. Very well done. Already mentioned is AS16 for P3D and ASCA for weather. Products like ENVTEX and PTA enhance visuals.

Scenery gives you  huge options - I like Toposim for world wide mesh. Again I prefer GEXP3d for textures and UTX for vector however a lot of people like Orbx products. The number of individual payware airports from varying developers is huge.

That's just a starting list......

Thanks guys. I will start looking into this stuff.

I was just looking at the aircraft included in P3D v4 and I had no idea the Virtavia Blackhawk was included. I loved that helicopter in FS9! I also see the Iris F-22, Dino Cattaneo's F-35, Carenado A-36 are included.

I think ORBX or UTX gives the overall best start in my eyes. Together with AS16 + ASCA, ENVTEX and PTA.

Then a good plane - depends on what you like flying - and you should be ready to start.

And may I suggest ORBX Innsbruck? I'm my eyes the best payware airport.

So ENVTEX is something like REX right? And where do I find Orbx Innsbruck? I was just at their web site and did see any Innsbruck scenery.

Yes, Envtex and REX TD are doing the same thing, replacing default textures with better ones.

I have question about meshes. I am flying only in Europe and I have ORBX Global, Vector, OpenLC Europe, HD Trees, Envtex and PTA installed. Does a mesh product add anything to this combo? I am mostly flying airliners at FL350.

I noticed that Toposim has 50% sale this weekend.

Thanks!

Hi Joseph,

We just released this bundle – Texture Direct with Soft Clouds Enhanced Edition. It's a great cost effective and full featured environment solution.

Here you go: https://orbxdirect.com/product/lowi

If you go the PTA route, we just released presets here: http://www.rexsimulations.com/pta.html

Enjoy!

I just realized I have/had the FS9 version of ENVTEX called Full Environment 9. It is freeware and the file name is fe9_v1_3.zip. The readme mentions the TOGA projects Team.

I will consider REX texture Direct, but if I go for ENVTEX  I will get the stand alone Soft Clouds.
