P3D V4 AA

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

With p3d v4 and AA settings.

I have a 4k tv and my AA is set at 8xmsaa internally no ni which looks great and also 4xmsaa

Only concern is at my fsdt airports klax cyvr etc

I get jaggie lines on light poles and buildings

Now setting it at 4xsaa which i should not have to with a 4k it brings performance down a little and more so in dense clouds

Using 2 x  titans sc 6gb each first edition in sli

With a i7 4790k at 4.4ghz

Ssd etc etc

Shame on p3d or nvidia or both

As with this kind of hardware i should be smashing performance

Dont get me wrong flight simming has come along way.

But AA needs to be improved

Especially with hardware that powerful these days

We pay alot of money to get better performance.

Develepers need to up their game a little

In my opinioN

Cheers

Mike

Try 8xMSAA in the sim and 2x sparse grid supersampling in NI.
That seems to be a better balance of performance verses quality for me on my 4K.

This is also my favorite setting and compromise for dynamic lighting.

I thought you had to match SGSS in NI with the in game AA?  I read that in threads such as this:

Either way I'll give this a try as I'm having similar issues to OP.

Yes that's the traditional wisdom but I was just playing around with various combinations and on my screen 8msaa plus 2sgtss looked just as good as 4msaa plus 4sgtss.

Will try

Thanks

I don't really have any problems with heavy clouds with this setting but turning on dynamic lighting is still a big frame rate hit.

Edit: Then again that is mainly with the NGX737 where the DL really hits.

For DL I have good success with 8XMSAA (at 4K) in more dense locations.  For rural locations, DL and 4XSSAA works very well.

I'd sell them both and get a single 1080Ti ... SLI isn't doing much good in P3D and in some cases will have visual anomalies.  A 1080Ti will do a much better job with AA ... or wait for nVidia Volta which maybe pushed forward for a 2017 release.   From what I've read regarding the Volta, 4XSSAA + DL at 4K resolution will not be a bottleneck.

Cheers, Rob.

Hey mate

Yeah was thinking about selling both my cards for the 1080ti

But that is beside the point.

Cant LM fix AA

or nvidia come  out with a driver to utilise sli and fix AA?

Volta definitely on top of my Xmas wish list....

That's not the issue, it's simply just not enough raw GPU processing performance.  If LM move to PBR (I'm not saying that will happen, just hypothetical) AA is going to become even more of performance issue, take a look at the other flight sim platforms that implement a version of PBR, shadow processing is very coarse and increased AA induces a rather significant performance penalty.

8K monitor with small dot pitch at a specific view distance might not need any AA processing ... GPU and monitor hardware will get there eventually (within 3-5 years) is my prediction.

Cheers, Rob.

On my triple view setup I use 8X SSAA and it makes the views look very nice.

Regarding performance loss I did not notice any drop between 4X MSAA and 8x SSAA with my 1080 Ti OC.

My former Titan X Maxwell indeed had a performance loss.

Hold on mate

Are you using complex aircraft scenery and weather with 8xsaa

And get great performance? ?

Thanks.  I'm doing some testing now.  Do you have everything else on default?  I think the only other thing I've changed in the NCP is setting power to prefer max performance.
