Baro and call outs

I did two flights today with the updated version. Prior to the update everything worked fine.  Today in the -800 I had a minimums call at 30 feet when my baro was set for 200 minimums.  Then in the -700 tonight, landing in PHX on RWY 26, baro set to 251 for ILS, I had no callout and the green indicator for the minimums was nonexistent.  I couldn't even dial it in after landing and the altimeter was set correctly.  Why am I having problems I never had before with the minimums call and recognition?  

 

I kinda think I missed some call outs on final too, which has been an issue in the queen.  All other sounds work fine.  And this is the only add-on that seems to have sounds missing now.  Aside from that, even the baro setting was ignored on the PFD.  I got the number but not the green triangle on the tape. ??

Are you confusing Radar Altimeter minimums with Barometric minimums? The reason I ask is that it would be impossible to have baro minimums of 251 feet at Phoenix. The field elevation is 1135 feet MSL, so baro minimums there would be at least 1335 feet.

If you had BARO set to 251 and expected a call in PHX, you'd be underground by about 1000' before you heard anything.

Honestly? Stuff like this is usually down to a person doing something differently, not realizing it, and expecting things to be the same.

Likely because it was buried underground.

Pay attention to what you're doing up front. It'll save virtual lives.

Also...why are you setting mins in PHX? Weather doesn't exist there, so if you were flying anything other than a visual (or ILS-aided visual), I'd be surprised. There are no mins on a visual (even if you're flying an ILS-aided vis).

 Monsoon season runs through September and can drop visibility to CAT II/III mins within minutes (not that you'd likely be within wind limits for a low vis approach in those conditions).   It's pretty crazy if you aren't used to desert weather.  Google image search "Phoenix dust storm".  Cool stuff. 

I'll skip setting mins when I'm certain it's good visual conditions,  but from a standardization aspect,  setting mins every time is really not a bad idea...

Agreed though that baro mins of 251 aren't gonna do you much good in PHX, being well below ground!

Lived there for about a year and a half. I'm familiar. It was actually a really cool time of year (and by 'cool' I mean neat). By and large, however - even during that season - you're shooting vis, unless you've got a cell coming through, or a dust storm that gets kicked up.

 Cool,  yeah I agree,  it's my favorite time down there.  Nothing like lightning and virga out over the desert in the evening!

Yeah, I'm really surprised I didn't snag any good pictures. I feel like I did, but didn't have a tripod, so they were awful and I deleted them? It was nearly a decade ago now, so... *shrugs*

From a procedural standpoint it's a good idea to set minimums on every approach for a lot of reasons.  For a visual approach you can pretty much set whatever you want.  On a visual I will set 200' feet above the touchdown zone.   It keeps all the call outs consistent and reinforces the habit of insuring the mins are set prior to every approach.
