Opinions on this rig please. :-)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just would like to get your opinion on this rig for FSX, P3D, and X-plane.

What I am a little concerned about is the graphics card, "ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DUAL OC"

I can get this rig on a real good deal

Here is the complete description page

Phanteks Eclipse P400

Corsair CX550M, 550W PSU

Intel Core i7-7700 Kaby Lake Processor

Cooler Master Hyper TX3i Komplett Ed.

ASUS Strix B250F Gaming, Socket-1151

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 16GB

ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DUAL OC

Samsung PM961 SSD 256GB M.2 NVMe

Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5'' HDD

Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Hello Steffan,

It is almost, but not quite...

The i7-7700K would be much better as it enables performance enhancing overclock. Also, you are right to be hesitant with the GTX 1060. A 1080GTX, or even possibly (but I would not recommend it) a GTX1070 might do.

Instead I encourage you to go these little steps more, in order to be pleased with your purchase.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Thanks for that good info.

I can also get a good deal on a rig with a "Intel Core i5 7600K 7:e gen" with a GTX1070 8 GB.

How is a i5 7600K compared to a i7-7700?

You would be pretty underwhelmed by that system.  The 7600k with 1070 will be a much better bet if you can't stretch to a 7700k

I hate to pile on here, but...

ASUS Strix B250F Gaming, Socket-1151

a "B" series chipset is not for gamers/simmers.  You'll want a "Z" series motherboard.  And while Crucial makes very nice memory, you would be doing yourself a favor to make sure your RAM is at least 3000 speed.

Good luck,

Greg

So, if I go for this setup I should be ok for a while then?

Corsair CX550M, 550W PSU

Intel Core i5-7600K Kaby Lake Processor  (instead of a i7-7700 non "K")

ASUS Strix Z270F Gaming, Socket-1151

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 16GB

ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 DUAL OC 8GB

I think we can all agree that this would be much more satisfying for you Steffan! Be sure to have a rigorous cooling system for your CPU.

Tell us how it goes if you have it built. Happy flying.

Good solid choice except the RAM.  You want 3200mhz+ stuff

From what I hear, the 7600k makes 5.0ghz just like the 7700k so that's a good compromise as long as you overclock it.
