how to equip an aircraft with gps in the VC ?

Featured Replies

hello,i see lots of aircrafts with empty places in the panels and always asked myself if i can plane some gauges there myself somehow.for example on the carenado 182 rg II there is a blank gauge slot of the size of a gps unit on the co-pilot side. how would i modify my aircrafts to place an additional gauge in their VC ? is it possible ? is it easy ? it should just be the standard garmin gps that i can call as an extra window anyways.regards , tom.

The issue is not whether you can do it. It is whether you would want to. The default GPS is really hard on frames. Having it displayed all the time will really drag your system down.Cheers,N.

Hi Tom, I added some gauges to both 2D panel and VC of Jens Kristensen's DC-4 and it wasn't too awkward. In fact I think it's more difficult to try to explain it than to do it- it's mostly trial and error for sizing and location and the fact that I made it work shows that anyone could do it!! Andy.

so nobody knows a goog tutorial site or even a tool that helps you with the job ?regards, tom.

There is no "one size fits all" answer to your question. The reason is that the way the VC is designed may or may not allow for additions or modifications to the already installed gauges. The default aircraft, as well as most payware, and some freeware use a 'one poly per gauge' method of VC construction. This means that you can't for example, replace a round gauge with a square gauge, because the 'underlying polygon' on which the gauge is placed is round! For further information on gauges and gauge placement, the proper forum here is the "Aircraft and Panel Design" forum. ;)

i sent carenado an email and asked for instructions. i dont know about their customer service because i never needed it before ;) thats a good chance to try it out.regards, tom.

hate to break the news to you but that goes well beyond the bounds of "customer service." Devs can't be expected to spend much time teaching people to mod their products...

Hi Tom,>>>so nobody knows a goog tutorial site or even a tool that helps you with the job ?<<

http://tomyeah.com/images/gps.jpgive made it so far. its small but it works ;) i tried to scale it bigger but than it appeared inside the radio panel 2 panels above ! i tried to change the gauge numbers but that didnt change anything.ive read about gauge base polygons, that they have to be in the aircraft model, it seems like carenado left the white spaces really empty. they could have defined these polygons at least, so i wouldnt have 4 empty gauge spaces.regards, tom.

i found the garmin 430 in the lib, it fits perfectly ;) thanks for the help guys, regards, tom.

Hi Tom,That's great work! Post a shot of the whole panel as it looks like it was meant to be there.Andy.

That looks very very good. I was thinking to post my amateur adaptations to JK's DC-4 panel thinking it might help you a bit, but in fact I will be taking advice from you next time!!! I think that my changes only worked because there were already gauges there underneath where I put the newer ones.>>>>but there is no gauge polygon<<<
