March 6, 200620 yr Hey everyone,Holy cow...I've been a longtime simmer and I rarely buy addons anymore, but I'm kicking myself for not buying this one sooner. I've gotten to the point where I'm just about bored of everything you can do with FS9 (short of creating my own AI traffic...now a whole new addiction).Anyway, I love to planespot at the busy airports, and I recently started looking into finding better sounds for the AI planes. I was tinkering with sound levels and mixing, boosting volume and bass, etc. It helped, but nothing made a huge difference until I found out about FSHotSFX (the lite version with just the AI-Blast...not the full FSHotSeat program). It helps to have some decent AI traffic going on (I have UT and I'm now tinkering with it), but I swear my passion for FS9 has been completely reawakened. Now I'm up all night trying to figure out how to swap out PAI models for the lovely AI-Aardvark ones. I've got "Nick's touchdown effects" and his engine exhaust mods going...anything to raise the realism level just so that my airports come alive even more. Now I literally sit on the tarmac and watch while planes ROAR by, reversers kick in on the planes touching down, planes shriek overhead, planes all the way on the other side of the airport rumble down the runway, and all with a glorious doppler effect. Honestly folks...try the demo out and tell me if it doesn't completely change your planespotting world immensely. The demo is fully functional, but I believe you can only try it out at Chicago O'Hare(?).My only word of caution is that I believe it doesn't work well with Radar Contact 4. That issue could very well have been resolved by now, but I don't have RC4 so I didn't research the issue further.Best $15 I've spent on FS yet...hands down. I just thought I would pass this on and share my excitement. Airports are noisy places, and they should be in FS9 as well.Happy simming,Lee"GG" Avid flightsimmer with a solo pilot endorsement, halfway toward my Private Pilot in the Diamond DA20 C-1 Eclipse.
March 6, 200620 yr I have the full FSHS version, and all I could say was WOW, it knocked my boots off. Their support has got a bit poor lately but apart from a few very minor issues(mainly with AIBlast and FSUIPC) the software is great.
March 6, 200620 yr Hi,Yep, wouldn't plane spot without it.Take care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
March 6, 200620 yr Is this available as a download version anywhere rather than having to have it shipped? Also, are the sound files large? Is there a noticeable framerate impact?
March 6, 200620 yr I hate flying into or out of larger airports without FSHotSFX, it really makes a big difference in the immersion factor. I've had some issues with it losing my registration information from time to time, but I've never had a problem getting it fixed. And yes, it's available for download purchase here:http://www.fshotseat.com/order.aspJim
March 6, 200620 yr Ive tried the demo 2x before and just dl it and tried again. I do not hear any difference. I know within 40 miles of Meigs. Either external view or sitting in a plane right next to a busy active I hear nothing. Im sure Im doing something wrong.
March 7, 200620 yr I have the worst luck. Liked it,registered it and now when I click on my ASV6 icon to load it,nothing happens.Got sounds but lost my weather.
March 7, 200620 yr Author One quick tip for anybody just starting out with the program.Anytime you make any changes to your AI aircraft, including adding new ones, be sure to click the "Refresh AI Aircraft" button in one of the Set windows. Just realized that after adding an Aardvark MD-80 that was strangely silent while spooling up on the runway. As for those of you who may be having bad luck with the program, I'm too new to it to offer any advice other than a reinstall. Also you might want to make sure you have the FSUIPC module installed (not sure if it comes with it).Someone on one of the forums also suggested making sure that FS9 is loaded up completely, then Alt-Tab out and start FSHotSFX afterward.Back to bird-watching on the grass at Heathrow....GG Avid flightsimmer with a solo pilot endorsement, halfway toward my Private Pilot in the Diamond DA20 C-1 Eclipse.

March 7, 200620 yr Hi,There are problems (as stated at the top) with other programs that use FSUIPC. If they require a version later than 3.40 (as I remember), you won't hear reverse sounds in FSHotSFX.And I think the installer probably installed version 3.40 over the top of your (later) FSUIPC. Try downloading and installing the latest FSUIPC (or just reinstall AS?) and hopefully that will fix your problem.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
March 8, 200620 yr Here's a tip that worked for me, always re-install FSHS AFTER any update of FSUIPC as that seems to restore the reverser sounds.I haven't noticed any issues between it and AS6 however.
March 8, 200620 yr I tried it (again) and while the sounds are impressive, they seem to lag. Also seems to cause more stuttering around the airport when panning.Todd
March 9, 200620 yr Author Enable the Priority Boost option if the sounds are lagging, and try reducing the polling rate a bit. Evidently FSHotSFX needs to sort of "stay ahead of the game" with what's happening in FS9 in order to time the sounds correctly. And I haven't noticed a framerate decrease at all, and I don't exactly have a powerhouse PC either (a 2.8 P4, 1 gig of memory, Nvidia 6800 with 256mb).Hope that helps,Lee"GG" Avid flightsimmer with a solo pilot endorsement, halfway toward my Private Pilot in the Diamond DA20 C-1 Eclipse.
August 31, 200619 yr Resurrecting an old post here...Seen one or two people complain that the sounds produced with FSHotSFX are disappointingly 'looped' in character (i.e. short, repetetive sound files). Anyone noticed this?Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
