Not Again - DLC Simulator

Recommended Posts

I'm referencing the FSW Mission Pack, not a third party aircraft from Just Flight.

It`s the DTG and steam thing again, and yet XPlane and steam are not an issue or Aero FLY2.

And we all know that P3D comes with all the aircraft you need don't need addon scenery or aircraft.

We appreciate the feedback, since we're a small team our developers each have a specialization. So the team work in the area that most suits them, Epic Approaches after all went out alongside Update 12 which hit a number of long-term pain points (welcome back force feedback). We're still committed to developing the core sim, working with 3rd party partners and developing alongside the community. We're just making sure that everyone is contributing as much as they possibly can (and not breaking things for anyone else).

tl;dr This is the reason I don't program ^_^

The more "quality" dlc, the better.

Releasing these addons during the early access period 1) shows the expansion potential 2) shows the early adopters for 3rd party support, and 3) exposes any compatibility issues that can be addressed "before" the final release.

Again, DTG seems to be on the right track here and I am all for them releasing dlc pre-release to "pad their pockets" given that I was able to buy FS for $15 and then get FSW for free.

I mean let's face it, when will DTG break even...after the MS license, the AccuFeel license, the Orbyx license, the Truesky license etc.?

What is truly sad here...is that the DEV had to explain their actions when they have already shown a commitment to taking the core sim to the next level. @DTG_Cryss should have 100 rep points for even bothering to comment on "business as usual".

Ok...now get back to enjoying FSW everyone, DTG "still" seems to have their eye on ball.

You can buy DLC content for AEROFLY FS2 on steam and it`s been in early access since may 2016,

I´m pretty sure, I don´t know why, the reason is FSW is a DTG product. Every new thing they do, someone is complaining about it.

Like I said, I´m not buying it, at least not now, because I don´t like those kind of missions. The thing is, I know some people like it and DTG is aiming those, not me.

I get where you are coming from, @pmanhart. I'm not surprised by the offering of DLC, even at this early stage. I don't have a problem with it with a few caveats. I am holding out hope that key features like real world weather will be included in the core product offering and not as DLC. If that ends up being DLC, It will be hard to stick with FSW. TrueSky is definitely a plus, but honestly at this stage, the performance of the other ESP based offering is a more compelling advantage for me personally.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the time I've put into FSW so far, but I decided a long time ago not to support Early Access (beta) titles that proceed to release DLC or expansion packs before the main title is complete. Third party addons is fine with me (they aren't employed by DTG), but employing someone to produce DLC instead of finishing the main title leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I don't know how so many people thought I was talking about something other than DTG produced DLC.

Sorry but I still don't understand why this would bother you. I don't think it's accurate to assume that just because someone in DTG is producing add-on content, that doing so is necessarily slowing down or delaying the overall development process.

It would be a different matter if purchasing specific DLC was required just to have basic functionality in a product still under development, but I don't think that is the case here. "Missions" aren't my cup of tea, and I would not purchase that kind of DLC even if FSW was fully complete, but I imagine that some people would want that sort of thing. Unless you personally are being forced to buy something you have no interest in, why would you care?

It's a pretty common model recently and one that several sims are employing to some degree (Aerofly, il2, DCS etc.). Sure, we all want our sims completed as soon as possible but the devs need to build and test the dlc infrastructure alongside the main sim as well as build and grow a market for it, not to mention start showing some ROI as quickly as possible.

Sure, vote with your wallet if you feel that strongly about it but it does seem a little like cutting off your nose to spite your face, and reversing a positive review of the sim because you object to the internal workflow allocations of the development team just doesn't make sense.

I will say that if something that SHOULD be a core part of a truly complete flight sim is offered only as DLC then would be inclined to be in agreement with the OP.

Weather injection is a prime example. FSW does have a selection of "canned" weather themes that give a nice variety of conditions with the new True Sky clouds, and though it is currently possible to manually adjust temperatures, winds, clouds and precip, those settings are only applied globally. The ability to inject real time / real world weather is, IMO, an essential part of a true flight simulator. I would certainly not be pleased if core real world weather was only available as a DLC option - especialy since it is a standard part of FSX, P3D and X-Plane.

But once the core r/w weather is in place, I would fully expect that advanced weather injection would then be offered by vendors like HiFi, Rex, Opus etc, just as is the case in the "Big Three" flight sims. I would  have no problem with THAT being offered as DLC - either by DTG via Steam, or directly by existing vendors.

Since DLC (i.e. "Add Ons) is going to be part of the finished product, I do think that the basic DLC infrastructure has to be tested as part of the overall development process.

It is not possible to inject real world weather into P3D without using an addon.

I never even noticed that the r/w weather option was not present in P3D , since I have always used Active Sky.
