South African airport default ICAO codes in P3D v4

Featured Replies

Good day. I am attempting to run an AI application (which is still in Beta stage) in P3D v4. The flight plans are out of date since they still use FAJS and FADN as ICAO codes for airports in my local area and therefore there is no "spawning" of aircraft at certain locations. Their reasoning on the forums is that default P3D v4 still has FAJS & FADN as default ICAO codes and FALE does not exist. When I type these codes into my copy of P3D v4, FAJS does not exist. I have FAOR and FALE (FADN is still recognised). Can any P3D v4 users please verify this for me? I find it hard to believe from the developer of the AI application that they are using such outdated plans. I have installed an addon airport for FALE so maybe this has updated my version to the new codes while the default is still outdated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Peter,

Default P3Dv4 has FADN (Durban Intl), but no FAJS nor FALE. I do have FALE, but it's added by fsAerodata (no visuals, only navigation data).

Thanks, yes, FADN is still a valid code, but the airport is not in commercial use. Do you have FAOR as default for Johannesburg? I think that's where I imported FALE, from an external source. I cannot understand why a developer will still use outdated codes for flight plans in our area...the excuse was "to make it compatible with various older platforms". But they talk about "built from the ground up", "live traffic from real world schedules", etc. I believe they must cater for up to date simulators an not be held behind by legacy products...I paid top Dollar for this "up to date" product but it is no better than their previous product when it applies to my area. I think they have been embarrased by the fact that there are many "simmers" in my country and they "pretend" to support us (world wide) but are more in line for Europe, USA. So we spend our Rands on this "Built from the ground up" product only realising there has been no work done in my area. Their advertising is false for my Country. There is no development or improvement. They say I must ammend it myself using an upcoming "Power Pack". Why??

Anyway, I feel better now!

Hi Peter,

I have two airports for Johannesburg: FAOR (Johannesburg Intl) and FAGM (Rand).

Remember that a developer of AI traffic must work with the default airports and cannot assume that people have add-ons for the new airports. AI flight plans for airports that do not exist in the simulator will not be used by that particular simulator. Another option for this developer would be to include basic scenery (visuals and navigation data) for these new airports and include DeleteAirport records for the runways of the old airports. It's not very likely that you can persuade a developer of add-on AI Traffic to do that.

EDIT: MyTraffic has flight plans for FADN, FAJS, FAOR and FALE. Apparently MyTraffic choose to include flight plans for airports that do not exist by default.

I understand. But AI traffic which is developed "from the ground up" should not be dependant upon out of date default airports....for the money i spent, it should be up to date...the guys with the out of date default airports should get up to date....it's just another Africa cop out from lazy developers.Another R700 wasted upon lazy developers.
