Taxi route from gate 102 at EGKK

Recommended Posts

Hi Dave

I use this gate regularly, and I know that the usual real world route to runway 26L is the shortest way.

When I am ready for pushback with permission, I check the route using the taxi button.  The map shows a 'nose right' path.  It takes the a/c halfway to 8R - an overlong meander.  If I take the normal shorter  'nose left' route ATC responses come live again when I get to the 26L access point.

Can the EGKK taxi routing be modified?

Use the Taxi Maintenance screen to modify the taxiways.  There are probably some extraneous paths that make the shorter route look longer to the program.

You might also want to try importing that airport's taxi routes from your scenery.  Be sure to back up as described in the User's Guide before you do it.

Thanks Dave.  I should have RTFM:biggrin:

Now that I have, I can't yet see what to do.  A first look suggests that gate 102 doesn't exist, but according to UK2000 scenery - it does.

Clearly I have a lot more research and reading to do.  I have no Idea where UK2000 keeps its taxi routes, for example.  More questions than answers at the moment.

I suspect in Arnie's immortal words - I'll be back.

Hi Dave

Well, I've done the reading and have had a go, but no luck so far.

I am using Sim-Avionics 737 on a Jetmax 737, and they are driven by two networked PCs, linked by WideFS.

The scenery is P3D3 with all ORBX layers. My airfields in the UK are all UK2000 Scenery. Gatwick is the latest Xtreme version.  There does not appear to be defined taxi routes in any of these programmes.  So rather than import, I am trying to create the route, for which I have the taxiway letters, in P2A.  Also, there is no 'pin' for gate 102.

Do all programmes need to be running, with the 737 ready to taxi, before I can do that? 737 cold and dark would save time.

You can edit taxiways and gates with no SIM running at all.  All data for these is in P2A's database.

You can run MakeRwys.exe and look at the t5.csv file using a text display tool or spreadsheet to see what taxiways are defined.  Look at g5.csv for gates.

Or, you can run MakeRwys.exe, backup your P2ABaseData.mdf and P2ABaseData_log.ldf files.  The import the airport taxiways and gates into P2A and look at it visually.

Thanks Dave

I can't make MakeRwys.exe run.  Again I suppose the programs must be running too.

But, when I look at the taxi routes they are a mesh of meaningless (to me) straight lines criss-crossing the airport.  I would expect to see defined routes to runways.  I looked at JFK, and that is the same jumble of green lines.

Does this mean I have something installed wrongly?

No, it means you have the default taxi routes that can be a mess.

MakeRwys.exe only works with FSX or P3D.  If you have X-Plane, that would explain why it won't run.  In that case, you can select X-Plane as the source and import a single airport at a time.  Unfortunately, many X-Plane airports are not well defined in terms of gates and to some extent, taxiways.  If you have XP-11, then it should be better than XP-10.

Be sure and back up the P2ABaseData.mdf and P2ABaseData_log.ldf files before you try the update.  That way if the result is not what you want, you can go back to what you had before the import.

Hi Dave

I detailed my setup in an earlier post in this thread.  I am running P3D3.

Ahh, I missed that.

Then you should be able to download MakeRwys.exe from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html, put it in the root folder of P3D and run as administrator.  This should create the t5.csv, r5.csv and g5.csv files used by P2A.

Then when you run the import in P2A, and it asks if you want to run MakeRwys.exe again, answer NO.

Dave

At last I have got EGKK sorted out.  After following your advice, Gate 102 is there and its taxiway to 26L is correct.  I have test "flown" it, and am well pleased.

Your superb program has, for me, a steep learning curve.  But it is well worth the climb.

Thank you for your ever ready support.
