FS Global Ultimate mesh - will it work in P3Dv4?

Recommended Posts

I did some searching but wasn't able to find the exact answer to my question.

One post about P3Dv4 compatibility said you need the Next Generation version of FS Global but I'm wondering if that statement mainly is about the installer or also the actual mesh data.

Anyone who knows?

I have Ultimate and it works.  There is an installer tool on the Pilots website that will install it in P3D v4.

That's great news, thanks!

Just checked the Pilot's site logging in to my account but was not able to find an installer for P3Dv4 and in fact not even for P3Dv3.

This leaves me wondering if you maybe referred to the Next Generation version of FS Global Ultimate?

Ultimate will work just fine. You just don't have a P3D-Installer but can add it to your library manually. Nothing complicated.

Exactly what I was hoping for!

So this means nothing changed to the format of the mesh data from P3Dv3 -> P3Dv4?

Are you referring to a "64bit" mesh? No such animal.

FWIW I had manually installed the 2010 Pilot's Mesh into V4 without issue.  While their sale was underway, I upgraded to the 2018 Ultimate DL Bundle.... could not tell any difference... I'm sure there are advantages to upgrading, but my experience says it's not an immediate necessity...

Thanks a lot for the input guys and thanks for saving the rest of us from spending money on upgrades where you won't notice any difference anyway.

Looking at mesh specifically it has been the same thing for as long as I can remember where a couple of different people/companies have tried to convince us why we need a new version every now and then despite people questioning what the actual and visual difference is.

Can someone point to how you do  a manual install with p3d 4.

Simply go to the scenery library in P3Dv4 and add the below three titles. This example is for the Europe-Africa version of FS Global Ultimate and obviously your entries will have other numbers.

Someone once told me that if you want to mimic an "Official" install, the FS Global Ultimate entries in Scenery Library should go between Africa and 1107 base. That is where a native installer would put them.

[Area.104]
Title=FS Global Ultimate - Europe
Local=F:\fsgux\eur
Layer=104
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.105]
Title=FS Global Ultimate - Africa
Local=F:\fsgux\afr
Layer=105
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.106]
Title=FS Global Ultimate - Local Meshes
Local=F:\fsgux\LocalMeshes
Layer=106
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

How do I know that the pilots ultimate mesh p3d v4.1 is working?

I turn them off when in front of a mountain and I don't see any difference at all, so... I'm confused.

do you need to do both?

This is really messed up. I got pilots ultimate mesh for p3d v4 and yet it doesn't seem to do anything.

Ciao!
