Event viewer reports - RXP 530/430 V2 Win 10/64 P3DV4

Recommended Posts

Below are the types of errors received on an almost regular basis. With this latest, Typically, the Event View has about five or six of these kinds of errors.

I plan to do a complete Un-install/Re-install. Is there anything  else special to know?

Hi, and thank you for the details.

This looks like the 3rd or 4th 0xC000041d error type and your reports helps to further pinpoint the potential source of this. Please help me understand: do you get these errors in-flight, or just after closing the simulator / changing aircraft?

What I don't get is why the trainer is running flawlessly and we've not add any such error reports for the 9 months our GNS V2 for X-Plane has been released , and why we're starting to get these error reports only since we've released our FltSim version. In other words, I'm wondering what is specific to the FltSim 'process' to interfere with the 'trainer' process (which is a sandboxed from FltSim by Windows normally), or what is specific to our FltSim customers on their system which is not found on our X-Plane customers?!?

The more similar reports we get, the easier we'll find out. We're exploring some avenues, but it is a little like shooting in the dark for now.

Don't hesitate to further detail your findings as this might decisively help.

Jean-Luc,

I can certainly send more reports. I only sent a sample, but can certainly send much more. At this moment, I just finished uninstalling the Garmin trainer and the RXP program. I just downloaded fresh versions of the G530/G430 w/ firewall and AV turned off.

I answer to your question, I noticed on shutting down P3DV4, freezes requiring Ctrl-Alt-Del to shut down. Also as you suggest, when changing aircraft P3D lockups. When checking Event Viewer, I notice a number of G530SIM.exe hangs. isn't that the Garmin trainer?

Here are a couple of questions and things I've never understood:

1.) Is the Garmin trainer automatically installed when installing the G530 and/or G430?

2.) Does it matter which unit is installed first : G530 or G430 ?

3.) I've never really understood how the Garmin interacts with RXP units;

4.) When version 2.3.3. was released a few days ago, I simply installed over the top of the existing version; I'm thinking that was probably a mistake; can you comment ?

5.) When I initially installed, I noticed a considerable install hang up and posted about it. Actually, I was surprised to see the program installed and assumed all would be well.

I'm about to re-install pending your response. Please advise if you would like me to send more reports.

For the question 4, i have installed 2.3.3 over the previous and i have no error.

Perhaps you can give the full spec of your computer (with driver version for graphic card also, it can help rxp support). Others addons/hardware installed etc...

Hi Les, I'll try my best to answer:

1) When running the RXP installer, you're prompted to download and install the Garmin trainer, unless it is detected already installed. If needed, the installer downloads the trainer, saves a copy should you need to re-install again (saving re-downloading), and runs it. Once the trainer installer opens, you have to 'click' the 'INSTALL' option, and once the trainer installs, the RXP installer resumes and finishes.

2) It does not matter. As a matter of fact once you've installed one, you just need to authenticate with the e-commerce installer to unlock it.

3) The Reality XP GNS V2 (and GTN for that matter) wraps and control the Garmin Trainer process in the background. It evidently 'bridges' the gauge buttons and knobs to inputs for the trainer, 'grabs' the trainer screen for display on the gauge, and do much much more behind the scene.

In particular, the Reality XP solution goes beyond and deeper into the trainer process so as to remove all unnecessary code when it runs in the context of the simulator (vs standalone), so as to lower as much as possible both RAM and CPU impact of the trainer. It is not rare for flight simulator to run with more FPS with the Reality XP GNS V2 than with the default FS XML GPS for example. In addition, the Reality XP solution re-creates authentique interfaces to the Garmin trainer as-if it was a real GNS device connected to real avionics data sources. This is just scratching the surface.

4) Do you mean v2.3.2 was not producing these errors?

5) I'm not sure about this, but I've noticed a number of customers try to run in 'admin' mode, while they shouldn't, and while it is not necessary either when both the installer, and the programs (ours) are designed with UAC in mind.

I really think there are 'installation' habits in Fltsim which are deeply rooted because of other products lack of UAC compliancy, because honestly, in 12 months of GTN and 9 month of GNS feedback on X-Plane, we've not had a single problem or issue like what you describe. As a matter of fact, we've nearly no problem at all with our products on X-Plane, although both our X-Plane and Fltsim versions share the very same 'Garmin trainer wrapper' module: rxpGnsSim32.dll in your C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\ folder.

I'm strongly committed to get to the bottom of it and I'm sure we'll end up finding a solution.

Jean-Luc,

Thanks for all the information. Reference #4, the earlier version was still producing errors. for #5:

"I'm not sure about this, but I've noticed a number of customers try to run in 'admin' mode, while they shouldn't, and while it is not necessary either when both the installer, and the programs (ours) are designed with UAC in mind."

- Others may agree or disagree but I think for us non-experts, we hear constantly "Run as Administrator" ; therefore, I simply right-click and run as Administrator all the time for everything. I thought this must always be a good thing; like drinking water.

I will now re-install and report back but it may take a little while.

I re-started the installation with the G530 and it stalls after installing the Garmin trainer. The box states:

Setup - Reality XP Garmin GNS V2 (FltSim)

Installing

Please wait while Reality XP Garmin GNS V2 on your computer

It's been completely stalled after 15 minutes.

I'm going to cancel out.

Let me take the opportunity to recap a few points about 'admin' since Windows Vista:

Running a program as 'admin' or non-admin makes windows redirect some key registry and path to alternate locations, sets ACL (access control list) to different values, which in the end prevents the installed programs running in non-admin to either fail to find or to load some or all files. Furthermore, it opens some places in your computer you wouldn't want an installer, or a program, to mess around.

Believe me: unless absolutely necessary, an installer or a program failing to run if no installed in 'admin' mode means only the program is designed only for Windows XP. Should an installer or a developer requires you to install as admin by default, you might want to ask them to revise their solution, or explain why it is absolutely necessary.

Maybe you can try to reboot your computer prior trying to re-installer, so as to make sure Windows / Fltsim has released any file lock. Then, you might want to deactivate your anti-virus just for the time of the installation.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thank you for the info. Each time I start P3DV4 and Active Sky, I right-click the desktop icon and "Run as Administrator". Are you saying I should not do this?

I re-installed RXP again and the second time was flawless. I then configured three aircraft (Carenado T210M, Milviz C310R and Alabeo C310R) without issue.

Here's the thing I don't understand - I then checked Event Viewer and find several errors. Some are P3DV4; some G530SIM.exe. Note these are without experiencing an actual crash or freeze

Below are some samples for your review:

What about trying with a vanilla P3D4, at least, without Active Sky nor FSUIPC?

Yes you shouldn't. P3D4 and GNS V2 are at least well coded for UAC and Vista/Win7/8/10. There is no need to do this and we never do this either!

Ok, thanks. Hopefully, this may be the solution. For my last test, I ran P3D by simply double-clicking the icon. While Event Viewer showed several G530SIM.exe "APP CRASHES', P3D.exe showed no errors for a change. Unfortunately, I don't recall exactly how i last installed RXP V2 and Garmin trainer relative to "Run as Admin". I think I might try one more RXP V2 re-install without any "Run as Admin" to see if that does the trick.

I just finished a second re-install of G530/430 and Garmin trainer without using "Run as Admin". Again, while there were no P3D errors,  there were eight errors like this one in the Event Viewer. Hopefully, this info will help.

  • Flight Simulation's Premier Resource!

AVSIM is a free service to the flight simulation community. AVSIM is staffed completely by volunteers and all funds donated to AVSIM go directly back to supporting the community.
