Exporting Flight Plan

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there a way to export the currently loaded flight plan to a .pln file format? I recall in the legacy version you would right click on the FPL button and get a double beep and it would create a .pln file. Reason is I would like to load filght plans into ASP4.

Thank you

Hi, yes you can, directly from within the GNS now: see page 8 of the User's Manual!

The GNS offers a feature to export the flight plans from the device. On the GNS device, while viewing the Flight Plan Catalog page, press the GPS knob to activate the cursor and select a flight plan in the list.

Then press the Menu key and select the Export Flight Plan? option. The exported flight plan is saved to the same "FPL" folder with a unique file name.

Hi Jean-Luc

Did that but exported flight plan is saved with a .fpl extension not .pln as I was hoping. Maybe a future update?

You are right, the feature is for round-tripping flight plans to/from device to the hard drive. It should be quite easy to convert the exported FPL file (xml formatted) to something like a FltSim flight plan file though, most of the fields are similar. If not manually, there might be flight planning software which can load/save in various formats, included FltSim?

Maybe you might explain what is the need for exporting FltSim flight plans though?

Please note the next update adds a new option, "LinkGpsSim" (might change name but close enough - aka LinkGps in the legacy GNS) which synchronize the GNS active route to the FltSim default GPS. This will enable FltSim ATC to follow through, and to display the active route on any EFIS using the default GPS route!

To load into Active Sky weather.

Using Sky vector I downloaded the various formats available there in order to convert.

The only software I could find was this: http://www.flightutilities.com/FP.aspx but I was getting incompatible file version when opening a FPL file but a Garmin GPX file opened ok and saved to PLN ok but ASP4 couldn't read when loading.

That sounds like it should work. Looking forward to that.

One benefit of having the export feature is that when using products that have other avionics such as G500/G600 etc, the flight plan data in the RXP GNS doesn't show on the other electronic instruments because they rely on the FSX gps data.

Hi, this feature requires you setup your trainer for flight plan import like described in the User's Manual. Once setup, both export and import should be available.

Is working great, sorry for all the questions, but I believe that this is the right place to ask them.

Don’t want it to feel that is a bother.

Thanks again!

Appreciated
