Prepar3D v4.1 to be released next week...

I would buy it now and download v4.0 while it is still available then download and install v4.1 when its available.

If v4.1 turns out to be a bit of a donkey then you still have 4.0 which seems to be OK.

This is actually very good advice.  Once 4.1 goes live, they will take down 4.0, and if you didn't have it already there's no option to go back and get it.  Several point releases of P3D v3 were big trouble for some users...like those with SLI configs, for example...and a number of folks learned the hard way not to delete their installers for an older version that worked for them.

Cowards!

What's the use of risk if you don't take it?

Jump in, ask qualifying questions and assess benefit-loss coefficients of early adoption later!

I agree entirely, excepting Windows 10. Just because the wall is there, doesn't mean you have to bang your head on it!

Well, whilst that is sort of true, sadly there are some things which are not supported by anything other than Windows 10 as far as a lot of processors more advanced features are concerned, such as the dedicated video processing logic within 7th and 8th gen Intel processors and their AMD equivalents. If you have one of those, then Windows 7 won't do security updates either, which might not bother you, but your processor not doing all it can when you use FSX, P3D and FSW, all of which are still quite dependent on the CPU, is not good, so unfortunately, it's a fact that Windows 7 is not the best choice for us flight simmers.

It was because of this that I kind of had to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 just recently. I wasn't happy about it because it was in fact Microsoft which made that decision in order to force people into using Windows 10, but it is what it is, so I had to suck it up. I don't particularly like the Windows 10 interface, and there was no way I was going to use Windows 8 because that interface is even worse than Windows 10, so I held out with Windows 7 as long as I could, but I got sick of the constant messages popping up saying Windows couldn't update because I have a Kaby Lake processor courtesy of a recent rebuild so my PC could run a more modern GPU, and that in combination with knowing that Kaby Lake wasn't running at full tilt either forced the issue of using Windows 10. Having said that, I can tell you that, in my experience at least, FSX, FSW and P3D do run better on Windows 10 than they do on Windows 7, so putting up with the Windows 10 interface is something I'll probably get used to and then I'll probably not be quite so miffed about being forced into it.

Back on the original topic, if it was me looking at getting into P3D V4 right now, I'd buy the present V4 version and download it before the update simply because the servers might be getting hammered when the update comes out and the full thing is a fairly big download, and as we know, you'll only have to download the client to update it, which only takes a minute or two.

LOL!

Of course I was using satire to mock myself, however I am often an early adopter but have seldom regretted it as I tend to do my homework beforehand.

That being said, I am a willing Windows 10 user without anything but good experiences, except for that one time when everything got wiped out...

But that was then and this is now! Bad things like that don't happen anymore, right? Putting the past behind me, it is time to look forward with confidence!

Anyhow, I trust LM knows the details of the Windows 10 update and have taken any changes into account... then again, there was the time they fouled up my SLI with P3Dv3.4...

But they fixed that a month or three later and the break from FS was good for me, besides it kind of made me think about getting my new GTX 1080 which I really like,

and what could ever go wrong with that?

Then again...

Ah, go for it!

It's not like anyone is going to start a nuclear war or anything!

Live it up, and experience life to it's fullest -Flight Sim!

Kind regards,

Without a change log there's no way to know if it's even worthwhile as yet to update right away or wait

Well for the fun i do upgrade, it's so easy to revert back... But since there will be quite a few bug fixes I will probably stay on 4.1 :gaul:

I have always gone with the latest version. I just accept the risk and put up with whatever the issue is until the next version  - unless the issue is a real bug bear for me.

If you own the FSL A320 and want to use it with P3Dv4, you'll have to have the upgrade to 4.1.

I would be careful with that. If you're affected by the CTD which occurs with the September 2017 Update for Windows 10 1703, then you should definetly wait. If you're going for Windows 10 1709 (Fall Creators Update), then you have no chance in uninstalling the Cumulative Update as it is baked into the RTM Build.

I'm not worried about it.

Matt Davies says that there are over 70 items on the changelist so far, he has access to the beta forum. Seems to be a pretty substantial update by the looks of it.
