Can you add the offending files or folders to Norton's exclusions list?

Bert this is what Norton reported

Auto-Protect blocked heuristic virus, high risk, F1 gtn dill threat name Heur.Adv ML.B  Exclude this program

Do you mean click on the exclude program and by doing so would put this in the norton exclusion list?

I had Kaspersky AV do the same thing.

Just exclude the file if you can.

Also with the file clearly identified there is a worldwide database the GTN publisher can contact to have the file added to a global exclusion list that all AV companies use as they constantly update your AV software. That in time takes care of the issue for all. This should be done with this file as these reports show that the file is getting false-positive from multiple AV software.

Posting this as new post rather than an edit to previous post so as to catch all who have read up until this point. The last post on the page linked below will provide insight as to how the global whitelist works. It does take several days.

I do not own Norton, so do not know the exact procedure - sorry.

I personally use AVG and there I can select files or folders to exclude.

I have Norton's AV and have used it for years, when you download it will scan the file and will warn you on the right lower taskbar, this is were you need to step in, open up info and you can override Norton`s and trust the file and exclude it from AV, and in setting exclude a drive or program from scanning.

Check out the stories about the Russian spy`s using Kaspersky software.

This is not a virus. This is Norton reading a pattern of bits that it thinks might be a virus. Norton is wrong. Exclude your FSX directories from scanning and restore whatever file it may have quarantined. Norton is over-enthusiastic with this sort of scanning and easily fooled. As a developer I could, on occasion, change 1 bit in an executable and generate a virus warning of this sort.

Heuristic AV is reactionary - when it sees a change to an exe it throws a red flag.
No issues with GTN.
