CTD for no reason

No Ultimate Traffic but MT6, at less than 19%.

I got the same crash with v4.1 but saw the error in AppCrashView (the error never showed in the Event Viewer).  Flying around KLAX enroute to KSAN in the PMDG 747 when suddenly the sim crashed with a StackHash.  I had one earlier with v4.0 and had lowered my settings (which is normally the fix).  I had also removed aircraft from MT6 incompatible with V4 and lowered AI to 15%.  Did not see another crash for a couple of days after many flights.  Then suddenly the StackHash yesterday while descending into KSAN.  Disabled MT6 and so far no crash.  MT6 has so many AFCAD's made back in the FS9 days that I'm thinking it has objects/AI not compatible with P3DV4.  But I reenabled the trafficmil.bgl because I thought I had gotten rid of the incompatible military traffic.  It could be that too but I had a lot of successful flights with that.  Still, with MT6 disabled, no crashes.  So that's my theory for the crash.  Will go back to the default AI (until I get another StackHash and see it was not MT6).

The current version of AppCrashView works with Windows 10.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for that, Jim and the AppCrash View. Not familiar with AppCrash View, so how does one check what is the cause of the CTD. EventVwr I'm familiar with. If you can post up a screenshot, I'd be more than grateful.

When these CTDs happen, it is so hair-tearing, and if like me, one's pate is sparse, there isn't a great deal of hair to tear!!

That's when I go back to picking up the Good Ole Fender!

Dave do you use mytraffic?

Dave where you flying the 737??

Also are you both running P3Dv4 as admin?

Where do you get the ctd Dave..

Ive had these before alot and its a simconnect issue,  I'm convinced of it.

1. No

2. No, Majestic Dash 8 (Beta, but stable).

3. Always (see my signature)

4. During flight into Washington DC

5. Don't believe it had anything to do with SimConnect.

Best wishes.

Likewise as per your set-up, Dave, except I am not beta-testing any aircraft, and I was flying over France, stock default scenery/landclass/etc, at night, en route to default LOWI.

Wish I knew how to use that Process Monitor that Jim has referenced to in another thread.

Reinstall the sim connects from the distribution folder. See if that helps.  Humour me here. Ive had more of these disappearing sims in 16000 hours on vatsim than Harvey wienstien has had rejections from actresses

Just been thinking about this in the gym (sad I Know)

Does your terrain.cfg have orbx entries???

If not run orbx central so it redoes them,  the 4.1 content update overrights and dumps a new one without the previous orbx entries

5 Bucks says it's the terrain.cfg or simconnects.  It's heartbreaking though that in the patch notes they could of mentioned "if you own orbx products please rerun orbx central to update your terrain.cfg" Or better still the installer does if for you.

I've lost track of how many times I've mentioned it that in 2017 everything is shoddy as hell and the developers are only worried about their product and not working PROPERLY with each other.

Just dumping a new terrain.cfg is a perfect example and just think of all the other orbx customers that wont understand this.  Heartbreaking,  yet so so simple to avoid by a developer using a simple pop up notice on the installer advising people or one sentence of 12 words in the patch notes.

See the AVSIM CTD Guide for the link to download the AppCrashView.  The stuff that loaded is not required but it shows the faulting module (in most cases).  It interprets Windows Error Reporting.  It provides a clue to what might have caused the crash like the Event Viewer.  Unfortunately, you might get a StackHash too but it will be completely different cause than the crash I got.  There is no one solution for a StackHash (or NTDLL) that fits everyone.  Everyone looks for the common cause of the crash but it is not there.  Everyone has to investigate the "scene of the crime" (the CTD) for what they have installed in P3DV4, for the Windows OS they have installed, and for the hardware they have installed.  This is why the AVSIM CTD Guide has procedures for looking for corrupted/missing Windows system files, procedures for updating drivers for their hardware (including your MB, you sysbus, your ports, your hard drive controllers, and other hardware), procedures for doing a Windows Repair using a program developed by Microsoft Techs, procedures for fixing a corrupted User Name, and lastly, a procedure for conducting an investigation to narrow down the issue that is causing YOUR crashes and not MY crashes.  Page 10 shows you how to fix most FSX/P3D CTD's and Freezes.  Trying to find a solution for a CTD where there is no error report, no cause indicated, is impossible.  We are just wasting our time trying to tell you exactly what caused your crash and how to fix it.  But I can tell you that if you get a StackHash or NTDLL error, it could be a bad overclock, bad hardware drivers, or an incompatible addon to P3D.

You mentioned the "my" Process Monitor earlier.  There's a procedure in the guide for monitoring the processes during a flight but another member came up with an easier solution that provides similar informaton.  Click on your Windows key + R and type in resmon.  When P3D is started, look for P3D under CPU and check the box.  It will then just monitor P3DV4.  It will show you what is loading.  This is important as it might provide another clue as to what caused the crash (if you had a crash while monitoring).  It is NOT going to detect the cause of your crash but it may provide a clue as to what was running or loading when the crash occurred.  So, if Orbx scenery was being loaded when the crash occurred, you might suspect it was that scenery.  I know I found the cause of a crash using the monitor when I saw that MTX was loading just before the crash (not this crash but an earlier one).

The guide also provides some probable causes of a crash but not the solution.  The probable causes were found by me searching the Internet at all of the flightsim websites and seeing how others fixed this error.

Just out of interest,---never having had cause to look in there,------ where exactly does this terrain.cfg reside?

Thanks for all that, Jim. Will definitely go there. By 'your' Process Monitor, I meant you had reference to it in that StackHash CTD.

A long one here, if any of you guys has migration tool installed, just uninstall it, it gives those CTD without any error on Event viewer.
