What graphic engine is used in this Full Sim?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I was browsing youtube today and I came across this user's videos.  He is in FlightSafety's full motion sim and wow the graphics look superb!!!!.  First I thought it was photo scenery only with no 3D, but when he lands, I can see the buildings and airport etc.  The graphics are amazing!!!!   I wish current retail sim software can display this level of detail.

What simulation software is FlightSafety using?

Would I be dreaming or could it be possible that someone like say PMDG/A2A et al..licence this "VITAL 1100 VISUAL SYSTEM" and produce a pc-based simulator?

Thank You for the share.

OMG!!!!! my jaw dropped when I saw this video.  Graphics are unreal.  This is what current sims should be at.  I assume Prepar3d v5 or v6.  Majority of us simmers have the graphics card to power a sim like Vital 1100.

When am I gonna see threads like I want "Vital 1100 Sim" - it already has scenery, no need to buy addons lol.  With the money spend on addons, we all could have just bought a license for Vital 1100 Lol

Vital 1100 + VR = Magic?

That hail effect at 1:50 affected me on a spiritual level. Also, the cloud representation is absolutely beautiful.

But other than that, I don't think it looks a whole lot different from our desktop sims, and in some situations even looks a little worse/more cartoony. Obviously when you're in a full motion simulator doing formal training visual fidelity takes a bit of a back seat to systems simulation, but it's still interesting to see how visually close desktop sims are to what the big boys use.

Yeah, I was typing a long-winded post pretty much saying the same thing, but decided to give it up. The thing is, sims using things like the vital 1100 tech have very detailed but also very limited areas, and people spoiled by Microsoft's whole-earth would probably feel too constrained eventually, even if the available areas were gorgeous and they were finally emancipated from ugly landclass.

The areas themselves are also not very far from what we already have, just these companies make enough profit to throw quite a bit more resources and detail at it. Aerofly could probably match a lot of this with the proper resources and some time, Orbx occasionally does with its better photoscenery based areas, and DCS is already a match, or even superior, I believe.

The grass is always greener, though....... :emu_melk:

Oh, and DCS is astounding in VR.

Very good graphics and smoothness, the future of what we will have in our flightsims.  P3d and Xplane come close with photoreal scenery already.

Dont forget that "our" sims are build to work on literally millions of possible hardware/OS combinations, while this one seems to be an enclosed simulation system, made for a specific hardware configuration, perhaps even with a customized OS.  It might even be running on more than one PC.

You would get about 20-40% more performance out of your PC if the software would have been developed specifically for your OS/CPU/GPU config

The narrator mentioned that it has a world wide database... just saying!

I heard,

Quote

VITAL 1100 provides a whole-Earth model for a realistic training environment between high detail airport and other objective area models. The worldwide database incorporates the latest terrain information with geo-specific satellite images for unprecedented realism.

My interpretation was that this is something like Aerofly: The whole earth in lower detail photoscenery and geometry, with additional higher detail areas like shown in the video. (Probably selected airports and other areas)

Or that there might be higher detail corridors between selected areas.

I'd be interested if anyone with more knowledge of the system could clarify......

I go to Flight Safety each year for recurrent maintenance training, which includes a few hours in the full size sim for engine run and taxi certification. Most of the sims are powered by a large array of rack-mounted servers that handle different aspects of the various systems. I assume that some variety of Windows is used for at least part of it, but some flavor of Unix/Linux is probably used as well.

The maintenance classrooms have computers with 2D cockpit simulations for systems training. Those PCs still run Windows XP!

The last time I was in the full sized Falcon 900 sim in Teterboro, the airport / runway graphics were nothing to write home about… Probably FS98 quality at best... but it’s likely that FSI is upgrading many their existing sims this new graphics system.
